2014 Group One Melbourne Cup Is Dyna Villa’s

Dyna Villa (8) has taken out the One in style, carving across from box eight to streak away for a two length victory in 29.36 at Sandown Park on Friday night.

The Collision and Roxio Bale (Droopy's Vieri – Francesca Bale) dog came into the race unbeaten at the track. He had also never had his colours lowered wearing the pink stretch vest.

The money had been coming for Dyna Villa all day and at box-rise he was just shy of starting as the favourite. That honour went to (1) who punters had supported well due to the prime rails draw.

Dyna Villa forged out a fast first section of 5.04 to lead clearly into the first bend, just ahead of NSW bitch Chica Destacada (2). Rounding the turn, there was a little bit of interference between Above All (3) and Luca Neveelk (7), which left space for Keybow to hunt up along the rail into third.

Down the back, Dyna Villa got out to a six length lead and at this stage it was clear we were looking at this year's Melbourne Cup winner. Chica Destacada tried her heart out, maintaining second position and pocketing $120,000 while Keybow filled the last of the minors.

Dyna Villa, trained by Jenny Hunt, has now won his first Group race. Prior to the Melbourne Cup, he had made the final of the Cup. The generous prize-money of $420,000 takes his earnings over $460,000. He has just turned two years of age and the big win takes his career record to 15 wins from 23 starts. He looks to be the next star for the famous Wheeler family and little wonder given he is closely related to the recently retired Xylia Allen.
