Border Patrol Makes It Four From Four For Staines

Written By Ellen Dwyer, Canberra Greyhound Racing Correspondent On Monday 20th April 2009

In Canberra’s only appearance on SKY this month a great ten race program ensured there was value on offer for punters with a good mix of favourites and long odd winners succeeding.

Opening event saw two of the first starters, Ariek Ruth and Extent, go stride for stride in the home straight, with Vivian and Keith Jones’ Ariek Ruth finishing a half a head better in 17.98.

Bronwyn Peck’s Classy Asset picked up the second event at a healthy $8 dividend, the black bitch taking the lead from Morgo’s Shania on the home turn amidst loud encouragement from connections.

Heat one of the Social Club 0-3win 440metre events was claimed by Sean Bannerman’s Reefton Magic who backed up a smart Temora win Monday prior, to record the fastest heat time of 25.55.

After securing a final win last week, Border Patrol went on with it this week, stepping up to the 440, making it four from four since joining Ken Staines to book it’s place in this weekend’s final.

Keith Morgan’s High Fees held on in heat three by half a head in front of Pale Face Ariek half a length off to favourite Cawbourne Tuf in 25.71.

Sean Bannerman securing a double, taking out the fourth and final heat with Preston Lane, the win getting some local punters out of trouble paying up to $6.80.

The quaddie races providing some sensational runs and great payouts for lucky punters.

The first leg going to Spanish State for Bruce Peck in 17.94, the Gunning trainer claiming the quinella with Miami Lock coming one and quarter lengths behind, Bomba Banquet coming in third.

After a pretty successful Magic Maidens series in town Jedd Lion made it’s first appearance at Canberra winning the second leg of the quaddie in 30.86 ahead of Victor Lane and Quinlan’s Run.

Marie and Terry Kennedy’s Molly Ross making the most of her inside draw in the third leg, stepping the best, Molly led all the way over last start winner Flying Deb and Kirby Lane.

Probably the pick of the races the Non Grade 530metre event saw some blistering early sections posted by red rugged Roughead, though it was the strong finishing Irinka Bronte that scored the chocolates ahead of Plugger Banquet and Black Gun Boy.

Canberra races this Sunday with the Social Club trophy meeting, before racing Saturday Twilight 2nd May, hope to see you at Canberra soon.
