Cool Frank Wins SA Coursing’s Waterloo Cup

With warm weather greeting patrons, racing was keen and some results surprised. The 2013 Waterloo Cup saw James Vescos' Cool Frank defeat Len Wilson's First Call after the elimination of the early favourite Dolmar in the second round. The Waterloo Cup Consolation went to The Hurley's Carlos Kist.

The Derby went to the well supported 's Stew's Mistake when defeating Jane McNicholl's Rajas Ogre and, again, the early favourite in Well Quoted was defeated in the third round by the eventual winner. The Oaks saw Tina Cattermole's Hilltop Snow repeat her excellent performance from the Preludes when she defeated Narelle Pittard's Hare Addict – Tina's decision to concentrate on the Oaks was vindicated. The Trophy Maiden Stake was taken out by Robert Hill's Noble Rock in defeating Ben Harkins' Good Odds Punk. Other winners on the day were Steven Coates' Mimic Master and Christine Costa's Belford.

The Club expresses its appreciation to the Lang Lang Coursing Club represented by David Dawson, in its sponsorship of the 8-dog Maiden with a Cool Vest supplied to the winner and a waterproof coat for the runner-up. Both Clubs are hoping that we can “link” to provide additional opportunities for participants – more to follow on this subject in the new year.

The Club is most appreciative of the support shown during the year by owners/trainers and hopes that 2014 can build on these efforts. Our thanks go to a small but hard working band of volunteers who ensure that the track and surrounds are kept in a superb condition, as well as canteen and catching pen staff who assist owners/trainers in maintaining their efforts. Thanks must also go to Teresa Mann who prints and supplies the racebook, Teresa has put a great deal of effort into ensuring that all details are now shown for each dog. I echo the sentiments of all when we express our appreciation to the Frith boys – including Phillip – for their skills down at the start. Thanks also to our lure driver, Trevor, and those necessary but sometimes much maligned , Jann, and our vets Michelle Hague and Jane McNicholl and last, but not least, thanks to our race-caller, Rowan Way.

The additional prizemoney provided by towards our 3 feature events is greatly appreciated and I know that owners/trainers were extremely pleased when looking at the increase in stakes. My final thanks must go to you and your dog who helped the Club achieve what has been a very successful 2013 season – Thank you!
