The Harden Red Devils took advantage of a bye to enjoy a fantastic afternoon at the dogs last weekend.
The rugby team supported the quality fields in 11 races with some welcome extra prizemoney for the Harden Red Devils Best 8 sprint which was won by Ted Doss’ Osti’s Treasure in the best time of the day after what seemed to be an effortless run for the 35kg dog in 20.13.
Club President Geoff Sheather claimed a hat trick on the day with the first win coming from Chopper O’Reilly in one of four Breakers Maiden 347m heats to kick off his career on his first outing in 20.51.
Spot of Rain scored the double in the T&D’s Produce 5th grade 347m heat in a speedy 20.24 and Riviera Top’s victory sealed the treble in the the Harden Red Devils 4th grade 347m stake with the winning time of 20.49.
In remaining Breakers Maiden Heats, Go Cobber was victorious for Kevin Mahoney and syndicate members in 20.82, Darren Lang’s Taihla’s Boy was successful in the next in 20.55 while Yanping Wang was triumphant for Tony Reilly and his syndicate members in 20.90.
Babaji’s Gift was just that for recuperating Michael Grant in the second of the T&D’s Produce 5th grade heats with a convincing 2 1/4 length lead in 20.48 and Goldie’s Gift scored by the same margin for Frank Jeffcoat in 20.28 in heat number three
.
The Young Shire Council 4/5th grade 520m event saw Navaho Lane prevail with the winning margin of 3 1/4 lengths for Margaret Bannerman in 30.75 while Awesome Kay’s wait until the last proved worthwhile after clocking the best time on the day over the 520m journey for Jeff Stedman in 30.64.
The dogs are on again this Saturday with full bar, canteen and bookmaking facilities available throughout the afternoon where the first race will jump at 1pm.
