2015 Adelaide Cup – free tips, best bookie odds & betting preview

ONE of the best fields to have raced in South Australia will line-up for Friday night's Adelaide Cup, with $75,000 awaiting winning connections.

The eight finalists have contested 272 races between them resulting in 128 wins and 90 minor placings with a staggering $1.6M in prize money earnings.

Of course, over half of that money belongs to the almighty Fernando Bale – arguably the best chaser the sport has seen. The white and dark brindle powerhouse will become the first greyhound in the world to break the $1 million mark if he is successful in the feature, with just over 29 seconds standing between him and immortality.

Paul Wheeler discusses Fernando Bale – read that story here.

Trained by , ‘Flying Fernando' will jump from box six on Friday – but that shouldn't pose any problems. In fact, Fernando Bale has achieved a unique feat in that he has won a group race from every box.

The last time the son of Kelsos Fusileer and Chloe Allen started wearing green he scored an emphatic victory in the Group 2 Traralgon Cup final, breaking his own track record in the process.

He then followed up that run with a stunning triumph at Angle Park last week, clocking a phenomenal 29.36 at his first look at the track.

Punters should have no fears stepping up to take the $1.50 with Bet365 – it is as close to being a certainty as you will find.

While Fernando looks the winner, there is some value to be found if you believe the champion could make a mistake.

, a kennel mate to Fernando Bale, has continued his run with bad boxes, coming up with the five ahead of Friday's race. In any other era, the son of Barcia Bale and Crystin Bale would have been considered a champion, but he is often overshadowed Fernando.

Nonetheless, the $8.50 on offer with Sportsbet is a massive price for a dog capable of running 29.30 around Angle Park. In fact, team Dailly have made it quite clear in the past ‘Double One' trials as quick, if not faster, than Fernando Bale. A winner of 20 races, he has clocked extraordinary times around The Meadows, breaking the 29.60 mark on seven occasions.

And what about Secret Spell? The Kelly Bravo-trained bitch is just one of two greyhounds to have defeated Fernando Bale in his last 24 starts. If you believe in omen bets perhaps this is the one for you. When Secret Spell scored over Fernando back in July at The Meadows, the black bitch had box three and Fernando Bale had the six – meaning that both chasers are drawn identically in the Adelaide Cup final.

Additionally, Bravo is expecting Secret Spell to improve, with the bitch first up for eight weeks in last week's qualifier. Without a 500 under her belt, the daughter of Bartrim Bale and Wicked Witch clocked a slick 29.74 at her track debut.

If you think Secret Spell can upset the champ once more, be sure to snare the $15 quote available with Sportsbet.

The Group 1 Adelaide Cup is race eight on the card this Friday night and will jump at 9:28pm.

“Great old stager which showed a lot of cheek when taking ground off Fernando Bale in last Thursday's heat. From box one he should be able to hold his position on the fence and it would be no surprise to see him sneak into the minor placings.”

“Fairytale runner in the event which stepped into Group 1 company following four wins over the 400 at Gawler and won his heat in an impressive 29.83. This is another quantum leap in class and he may find it a little tough, but at just 21 months of age we can expect to hear big things from him in the future.”

“Was very impressive at her first look at the track last week and with natural improvement she could run a cheeky race at nice odds. She does her best racing when on the lure, but box three will suit and she does have the speed to be up near the lead in the early stages.”

“Freakish talent which is let down by his box manners, if he were ever to jump he would be virtually unbeatable. From the middle alley he will have to do everything right in order to be close enough to Fernando to give him a scare.”

“Exciting young greyhound which never seems to have much luck in big races but definitely deserves to win one. Box seven will do him no favours with speed drawn either side, but if he can stay out of trouble early he may get a run into the race with Fernando and be able to collect some minor coin.”
