2015 Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity tips, comments & statistics

EIGHT talented bitches will do battle this Thursday night in the Futurity final at Albion Park.

Last week's fastest qualifier was the talented Over Here for Peter Ruetschi, clocking a sizzling time of 29.84 over the 520-metre journey. The daughter of Don't Knocka Him and Where Are You will start a deserved favourite with William Hill, despite being drawn in box six.

Churchable mentor William Elson has two runners in the event; Abby's Magic and Cyndie's Magic, both well-bred being by out of Regal Silver. Abby's Magic was an impressive winner last week in 30.16 and Cyndie's Magic made up a stack of ground to finish second in her heat, with some luck she should be able to feature in the latter stages.

John Dart has a great chance with Kingsbrae Lavina which will exit from box one. The beautifully bred daughter of and Kingsbrae Di, a full younger sister to champion chaser Paw Licking, has a solid record at Albion Park with five wins from 12 starts and a speedy personal best of 29.93 over the track and distance.

Dynamite Speed was another impressive heat winner from last week, clocking a fast time of 30.06. She will exit box seven on Thursday night, but she does appear to have enough early pace to overcome the wide draw.

The winner of the Group 2 will receive $48,475, second will take home $13,850 and third will collect $6,925 for their efforts.

Racing Queensland must be commended for significantly increasing the prize money in this race from $40,000 presented to last year's winner.

Lets check out the career statistics of each runner in this year's final, with runner comments from Australian Racing Greyhound's expert form analyst, Brad Bugeja.

Box One: Kingsbrae Lavina
Black Bitch – 25.5kg – February 2013
Elite State x Kingsbrae Di
Trainer: John Dart
Career: 22:8-6-3
T/D: 12:5-3-2
T/D Best: 29.99

“Reliable beginner which has a terrific record over this track and trip. Last week she was just fair to begin but she showed a great turn of foot before settling in second spot, she was unable to reel the leader in but she was far from disgraced. From the red tonight she should step well and push through at the first bend, with the two expected to run some cover I think she might be able to dash away with the prize mid-race. She is my top pick and you should be able to get around $4.50 or better with William Hill.”

Box Two: Pocahontas
Red Fawn Bitch – 25.2kg – April 2013
x Aunty Joan
Trainer: Patricia Carrington
Career: 26:6-4-3
T/D: 3:1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.37
Career Highlights: WON Ipswich 30.70

“Lid pinger who has continued to get stronger in recent weeks, but I dont think she is strong enough to be a major player in this. She tends to do her best racing when she can get out wide and into some open space and she also tends to race better at Ipswich. Great effort to make the final but she definitely faces an uphill battle in this.”

Box Three: Titan Ash

x Honey Lass
Trainer:
Career: 39:8-7-6
T/D: 30:7-5-5
T/D Best: 30.06
Career Highlights: WON Albion Park 30.06

“Likely to be well over the odds with William Hill and isn't without a realistic hope. She has a tremendous record here and she is quite strong in the run to the line. Last week she behind the classy Over Here and she was far from disgraced when beaten by less than four lengths. The box draw hasn't done her any favours but if she flukes a run through at the first bend she could cause an upset.”

Box Four: Abby's Magic
Black Bitch – 26.5kg – March 2013
Magic Sprite x Regal Silver
Trainer: William Elson
Career: 19:4-1-1
T/D: 7:1-1-0
T/D Best: 30.12
Career Highlights: WON Ipswich 24.98, WON Albion Park 30.12

“Highly talented chaser but is extremely hard to follow. Last week she was coming off a short spell and she appeared to race a lot better. She showed fantastic mid-race dash and she really attacked the line. Had she drawn box one or eight I would have given her a serious chance, however from the middle draw she is going to need a lot of things to go her way.”

Box Five: Magic Maiden
Black Bitch – 27.4kg – April 2013
Outa Credit x Magic Five
Trainer: Errol Kleinhans
Career: 13:5-3-3
T/D: 12:4-3-3
T/D Best: 29.96
Career Highlights: WON Albion Park 29.96, WON Ipswich 31.20

“One of the stronger chasers in the event and if she gets a clear crack at them she will most likely score but the draw has definitely made life difficult for her. She is armed with genuine early speed, however she has been bombing the start in her most recent efforts. With the speed drawn around her tonight I can see her getting squeezed out and therefore I dont think she can win the event but she is strong so she can still run home into some minor money.”

Box Six: Over Here
Black Bitch – 26.7kg – April 2013
Don't Knocka Him x Where Are You
Trainer: Peter Ruetschi
Career: 11:6-3-0
T/D: 7:4-3-0
T/D Best: 29.84
Career Highlights: WON Albion Park 29.84, WON Ipswich 24.74

“Exciting talent who has continued to get stronger with every start. Her sectionals are off the charts and if she reproduces her 5.46 first split from last week she will be off and gone as they head for the back straight, however I do have a small concern about the box draw. She is likely to start a short-priced favourite with William Hill and deservingly so , however I wouldn't be rushing in to take those odds. Great chance and with her early speed she is going to be a major player in even more feature races in the future.”

Box Seven: Dynamite Speed
Black Bitch – 24.0kg – January 2013
Where's Pedro x Spring Extreme
Trainer: Colin Byers
Career: 20:10-2-0
T/D: 1:1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.06
Career Highlights: WON 23.16, WON Albion Park 30.06, WON Ipswich 30.47

“Has won three on the trot and in all three victories she has beaten a very good lineup and she has also put the time on the board. The wide draw should suit tonight and if she can step on terms she should follow Over Here across in the run to the first turn. I don't think she can reel in the red or the six but if she settles on the speed she can definitely figure in the minor money.”

Box Eight: Cyndie's Magic
Black Bitch – 26.8kg – March 2013
Magic Sprite x Regal Silver
Trainer: William Elson
Career: 15:6-4-0
T/D: 5:0-3-0
T/D Best: 30.30
Career Highlights: WON Ipswich 24.89, 30.77

“Like her litter sister Abby's Magic she is blessed with enormous talent but she can be very unpredictable at box rise. The pink draw will probably help her tonight and if she can step cleanly she has more than enough dash to test Over Here in the early stages and mid-race. Her heat effort was quite good last week and if she goes around at silly odds she is worth a saver bet with William Hill.

1st Reserve: Ultra Blue
Blue Bitch – 26.0kg – April 2013
Outa Credit x Magic Five
Trainer: Errol Kleinhans
Career: 15:2-2-3
T/D: 12:2-2-2
T/D Best: 30.11
Career Highlights: WON Albion Park 30.18

“Doesn't win very often but does try very hard and she did turn in an eye catching performance when placed in her heat. I dont think she can feature if she gains a start, but she is an improving type and she will continue to win races in the coming months.”

Box Ten: This Time Reba
Red Fawn Bitch – 29.6kg – October 2012
Talk's Cheap x Meg's Shadow
Trainer: Peter Ruetschi
Career: 39:9-7-9
T/D: 20:4-2-6
T/D Best: 30.03
Career Highlights: WON Ipswich 25.32, 30.69, WON Albion Park 30.03

“Very unlucky in her heat and if she happened to fluke a start from a wide draw she could definitely make an impact. Has been missing the kick of late but has the talent and is capable of pinging away. Strong claims if she happened to draw well.”
