2015 Group 2 Ipswich Auction series tips & betting preview

THERE is racing action away from the harbour city on Saturday night with the running of the in Queensland.

The fastest qualifier for the $40,000-to-the-winner feature is the Mark Wilkes-trained In The Picture which has drawn poorly in box four. The son of College Causeway and Sheeza Picture showed plenty of tenacity to find the front in his semi-final last week, scoring in an impressive 30.77. Litter brother War Picture also made it through to the final after winning his heat in 30.80 and has drawn out wide in box eight.

The Group 2 Auction series is race eight on the card and will jump at 8:08pm AEDT. Lets check out the form of each runner and the what Australian Racing Greyhound‘s Brad Bugeja has to say about their chances.

Box One: Razen Toast
Brindle Bitch – 26.8kg – October 2012
Collision x Tessarina
Trainer:
Career: 21:3-3-3
T/D: 3:0-1-0
T/D Best: 31.09
Career Highlights: WON Ipswich 31.09

“Has come up with the good draw but has been a little hard to follow in her career to date. She has been sparingly raced of late and she commenced this series after having two months off. Her first heat effort was just fair but she followed that effort up with a handy placing last week. If she can step cleanly from the red she could push through into a handy spot early and she might take home some minor money.”

Box Two: Maywyn's Keeper
Black Dog – 30.8kg – April 2013
x Who's Asner
Trainer: Robert Essex
Career: 14:1-3-2
T/D: 2:1-0-0
T/D Best: 30.98
Career Highlights: WON Ipswich 30.98

“Caught everyone by surprise last week when winning at 40/1 and posting a solid 30.98. He exited a favourable draw last week and he was afforded a clear passage in the first 50-metres, from the two tonight I can't see him finding the early lead and from there on he will find the going very tough.”

Box Three: With A Gee
Black Dog – 34.9kg – March 2013
Fabregas x Chasin' Chloe
Trainer: Sylvia Hawkings
Career: 16:5-3-2
T/D: 6:1-1-2
T/D Best: 30.69
Career Highlights: WON 30.26, Ipswich 30.69

“Has a good record here and has turned in two solid performances in recent weeks and on both occasions he didn't have a lot of luck in running. The draw is a slight concern as he does have a wide runner drawn underneath but if he can step cleanly he should be able to put himself into serious contention as they head through the first turn. His 30.69 PB is impressive and if he can reproduce that type of effort he should be able to figure in the finish.”

Box Four: In The Picture
Black Dog – 35.7kg – January 2013
College Causeway x Sheeza Picture
Trainer: Makr Wilkes
Career: 6:1-3-2
T/D: 4:1-3-0
T/D Best: 30.77
Career Highlights: WON Ipswich 30.77

“Has always shown a lot of talent and he finally delivered with a powerful 30.77 win here last week. If he gains a clear passage he is clearly a winning chance, however he does tend to miss the kick and I can see him finding trouble in the run, with that being the case I think place claims do appear to be best.”

Box Five: Waikarie Magic
Black and White Bitch – 27.8kg – January 2013
x Arabian Magic Tu
Trainer: Brian Baker
Career: 21:8-5-4
T/D: 2:1-1-0
T/D Best: 31.01
Career Highlights: WON Albion Park 30.09, Ipswich 31.01

“Has the class edge and is armed with a dazzling turn of foot, she can miss away at times but she has now had two looks at the track and she is ready to show her best. There is very little speed drawn around her tonight, so if she can step cleanly she should be able to drive to the early lead and she will take some running down. She has won at Albion park in 30.09 and that type of run would be good enough to score here.”

Box Six: Maywyn's Ying
Black and White Dog – 29.2kg – February 2013
Bonshaw Boy x Maywyn Or Ebay
Trainer: Robert Essex
Career: 12:1-2-4
T/D: 2:1-1-0
T/D Best: 30.93
Career Highlights: WON Ipswich 30.93

“Has continued to improve throughout the series and he really caught the eye when winning here last week in 30.93. I think he will continue to get better with more racing and he can play a major role in this event, however he is drawn outside Waikarie Magic tonight so he will definitely find this a bit harder. If he can sit outside the yellow in the early stages he should be there at the business end.”

Box Seven: Pacific Champ
Black Dog – 31.4kg – March 2013
Collision x Sassy Sprite
Trainer:
Career: 4:1-1-1
T/D: 2:0-1-1
T/D Best: 31.02
Career Highlights: WON 24.38, 2ND Ipswich 31.02

“Most inexperienced chaser in the final but appears to be one of the most talented. Last week he showed great early speed and gave a bold sight out in front before being run down by the classy War Picture. He will be suited by the wide draw again and with two 520-metre hit outs under his belt he should be able to hit the line even better this week. Must for your exotic bets.”

Box Eight: War Picture
Black Dog – 33.1kg – January 2013
College Causeway x Sheeza Picture
Trainer: Mark Wilkes
Career: 20:7-2-4
T/D: 13:4-2-2
T/D Best: 30.63
Career Highlights: WON Lismore 30.35, WON Ipswich 30.63

“Proven chaser who has been terrific in both rounds and he has a tremendous record here. He has been beginning a lot better of late and he has been able to settle a little closer to the speed than normal, if he can settle in the top four again he will prove extremely hard to hold out. Everything points to him winning but I am a little concerned about his lack of early toe and he may get posted wide initially.”

Top Four: 5 – 8 – 3 – 6
