2015 Group 2 Laurels Classic – free tips and full betting preview

IT'S All Talk will be aiming to maintain her unbeaten record when she contests Thursday's Group 2 Laurels Classic (515 metres) at Park.

The Angela Galea-trained bitch has made a perfect start to her career thus far, winning her first seven starts including a nippy 29.52 in her semi-final on Sunday. Stepping from box five, the daughter of Magic Sprite and Fainting Fairies showed terrific dash, rolling to the early lead and kicking clear to score by three-and-one-quarter lengths over Anberlin.

Rated the $2.50 equal favourite with Crownbet, It's All Talk will remain in box five for this week's $50,000 final and looks a force to be reckoned with.

Sharing favouritsm is former NSW sprinter Fantastic Skye which is going great guns for leading mentor Kel Greenough. The blue bitch ran a luckless second in her semi over the weekend, but prior to that recorded a hot 29.47 victory over the track and trip. She will be assisted by box one and should be sitting right on the leaders tails in the early stages.

Also well in contention as far as the market is concerned is Polijuice Potion for Lisa Cockerall. The black bitch has won both her heat and semi-final of the series and is currently paying $6 with William Hill. Cockerall also trains litter sister which is one of the roughies of the field at $26.

Rob Britton is set all set for a massive night on Thursday. Not only does he have two runners in the final, he also trains Sweet Barbados which will jump from box three in the Laurels Classic. The speedster looks to be one of the early leaders in the race and must be respected at her $7.50 quote.

The Group 2 Laurels Classic is race six on the card this Thursday night and will jump at 8:48pm AEDT.

Australian Racing Greyhound has extensively analysed the chances of each runner in the final, with comments and tips from our expert form analyst, Brad Bugeja.

Box One – Fantastic Skye
Blue Bitch – 25.4kg – September 2013
x Light Fantastic
Prize money: $25,526
Trainer: Kel Greenough
Career: 16: 8-2-3
From box: 2: 1-0-1
T/D: 4: 3-1-0
T/D Best: 29.44
Career Highlights: WON Dapto 29.79, Wentworth Park 29.85, Sandown Park 29.44

“Fantastic Skye has been racing in rare form since coming down from NSW having won three of her four tries here and finishing an unlucky second in the other start. Last week she was slow to begin and although she got a lucky split mid race, she still had to work overtime to get into contention and her effort to qualify was ultra impressive. From the red draw, she should ping the lids and I would expect her to match motors with the speedy It's All Talk. She is the stronger of the two, so I'm expecting her to score.”

Box Two – Iyliss Bale
Black Bitch – 28.2kg – August 2013
Kinloch Brae x Darya Bale
Prize money: $25,265
Trainer: Heather Collins
Career: 39: 9-8-7
From box: 3: 1-1-1
T/D: 6: 1-1-1
T/D Best: 29.88
Career Highlights: WON Ballarat 25.68, Warragul 25.88, Sandown Park 29.88

“Caused a big upset when scoring here last week in 29.88 and if she can show similar early speed she could be a nuisance. She is normally very reliable at box rise and she does post smart sectionals, however her last 50m is the big concern. I think she can lead but even if she does I'm expecting her to get picked off late, so it might be worthwhile just including her in your exotic bets.”

Box Three – Sweet Barbados
Black Bitch – 27.5kg – June 2013
x New Year's Punch
Prize money: $42,545
Trainer: Rob Britton
Career: 27: 9-4-5
From box: 2 starts: 0-0-0
T/D: 12: 4-3-1
T/D Best: 29.60
Career Highlights: WON Sandown Park 29.61, 29.65, The Meadows 30.09

“Another and she has turned in two great performances in this series. Once again she will be fairly well fancied and if she times the start to perfection she can figure in the finish, however I am very concerned about the speed which is drawn around her. There is a heap of speed underneath and the five will come across hard in the first 50m, so she can't afford to make any mistakes in the run to the first bend. Can win but I'm happy to take her on.”

Odds to win Laurels Classic: $7.50 with

Box Four – Polijiuce Potion
Black Bitch – 28.9kg – December 2013
Kinloch Brae x Finlandia
Prize money: $52,545
Trainer: Lisa Cockerall
Career: 30: 8-8-4
From box: 3: 0-1-0
T/D: 8: 2-2-1
T/D Best: 29.75
Career Highlights: WON Sandown Park 29.75, 29.76, 33.97, 34.44, The Meadows 29.90

“She was my early tip for the final and although she is poorly drawn she is capable of causing an upset. She isn't explosive early but she can muster solidly and she will be very strong in the run to the line. Three starts back she broke the 34 seconds mark over the 595m journey but unfortunately she hasn't really put any time on the board in her 515 wins here. There is a lot of speed engaged in this event, so if they happen to bunch up near the lead, she should be there to pounce as they turn for home.”

Odds to win Laurels Classic: $6 with William Hill

Box Five – It's All Talk
Black Bitch – 26.6kg – March 2014
Magic Sprite x Fainting Fancies
Prize money: $31,605
Trainer: Angela Galea
Career: 7: 7-0-0
From box: 1: 1-0-0
T/D: 2: 2-0-0
T/D Best: 29.52
Career Highlights: WON Healesville 18.96, Sandown Park 29.52, 29.57

“Exciting talent which is yet to taste defeat in her seven career starts. She won her first five tries at Healesville and they were all in blistering times. Her past two wins have come here and on both occasions she has reeled off ridiculous sectionals. I'm expecting her to ping away again and she should be in the top two as they head for the back straight. My concern with her is that she is likely to have a fairly strong runner sitting on her hammer and she might not be able to hold that runner off. Definitely a top three chance but I think she is worth taking on at the short odds.”

Box Six – Alpha Nemesis
Brindle Bitch – 24.5kg – November 2013
Cosmic Rumble x Queen Of Cyprus
Prize money: $4,160
Trainer:
Career: 9: 1-3-1
From box: 0: 0-0-0
T/D: 7: 1-3-1
T/D Best: 29.51
Career Highlights: WON Sandown Park 29.51

“Showing some promise and has won here previously in a zippy 29.51, however this is a big rise in class for her and she is likely to be posted wide for most of the journey. The five should give her the cart in the first 50m but there is a lot of speed in the one and two, so she is likely to be out wide at the first bend. Great effort to qualify but unlikely to make an impact.”

Odds to win Laurels Classic: $101 with Sportsbet

Box Seven – Anberlin
White and Black Bitch – 27.5kg – October 2013
College Causeway x Elite Fairy
Prize money: $5,125
Trainer: Beverley Proctor
Career: 15: 4-2-0
From box: 5: 0-2-0
T/D: 3: 0-1-0
T/D Best: NBT
Career Highlights: WON Warragul 26.42, 26.56, Sale 29.80

“Showed a lot of improvement when placed behind It's All Talk last week and she will continue to improve with more racing, however she does meet quite a few smart types in this and she is likely to find the going tough. Like the six, she is going to be kept wide for most of the trip and she can't afford to give some of these chasers a head start. Can't win but keep an eye out for her in the coming months and she will go from strength to strength with more metropolitan racing under her belt.”

Box Eight – Rolanda Hooch
Brindle Bitch – 28.0kg – December 2013
Kinloch Brae x Finlandia
Prize money: $8,255
Trainer: Lisa Cockerall
Career: 13: 2-4-2
From box: 1:0-0-0
T/D: 4: 2-2-0
T/D Best: 30.13
Career Highlights: WON Sandown Park 30.13

“Hasn't won for a little while but she has turned in two strong performances in the series so far and she could run a place at nice odds. Last week she was solid to begin and from the red she was able to balance up in the top four and she hit the line well when running second to Sweet Barbados. It's a tougher ask from the pink, but I'm expecting her to miss the kick and she should be able to drop onto the rail. I'm not expecting her to win but she can pick off a few tiring runners late and she might be able to sneak into second or third spot.”
