2015 Group 3 Summer Cup – latest odds, form and betting tips

THE Group racing spotlight will shine on Wentworth Park this Saturday night for the running of the Group 3 Summer Cup over the 720 metre trip.

The dog to beat in the final is the Andrea-trained Bourbski Fever ($3.00 with William Hill) which will jump from box five in the $25,000-to-the-winner feature. The daughter of and Midnight Movie had no luck in her qualifier last weekend but ran a terrific race to finish seven-and-three-quarter lengths fourth behind Shoulders ($7). She comes into the series on the back of a thrilling victory in the Group 1 and Park and will be looking for win eight at start 25.

Also right in contention is Serena Nimbus ($4.50) which has drawn favourably in box one. The red brindle bitch has won two in a row heading into the event including a slick 42.47 heat win last Saturday where she defeated Ada Mary ($7) in the run to the line.

Luna Jinx ($5.50 with William Hill) can never be discounted in the big finals, but will need to bring her best against a quality line-up.

The Group 3 Summer Cup is race six at Wentworth Park on Saturday night and will jump at 9:13pm.

Australian Racing Greyhound has previewed the form of each runner, with comments and tips from our expert form analyst, Brad Bugeja.

Box One – Serena Nimbus
Red Brindle Bitch – 25.1kg – March 2013
Kinloch Brae x Where's Tobin
Prize money: $25,591
Trainer: Neville Brown
Career: 29: 9-4-7
From box: 1 start: 0 wins, 1 placing
T/D: 7: 1-2-1
T/D Best: 42.27
Career Highlights: FINALIST 2015 Group 2 Summer Distance Plate

“Serena Nimbus has always shown great staying potential but it has taken her a while to really show her best, however in recent weeks she has taken a big step forward and her past two wins have been ultra impressive. From the red draw she should be able to settle in the top two or three early and with a clear passage she should be there to strike at the end.”

Odds to win the Summer Cup: $4.50 with Sportsbet

Box Two – Zipping Echo
Red Fawn Bitch – 27.2kg – February 2013
Mandagery Man x Pink Bandanna
Prize money: $26,132
Trainer: Leanne Jordan
Career: 29: 9-5-3
From box: 3 starts: 0 wins, 0 placings
T/D: 7: 3-0-1
T/D Best: 42.43
Career Highlights: WON Gosford 30.04. Wentworth Park 42.43

“Zipping Echo found some trouble in her heat but she was still slightly disappointing and she is going to need to improve quite a bit to feature in this final. She has won here previously in good time and she is quite strong in the run home, however from the two draw she might get squeezed out in the initial stages and she will need a lot of things to go her way.”

Box Three – Shoulders
Black Dog – 32.3kg – June 2012
Cosmic Rumble x Bit Stressed
Prize money: $88,181
Trainer: Anthony Azzopardi
Career: 41: 14-8-3
From box: 9 starts: 4 wins, 2 placings
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 42.47
Career Highlights: 2ND 2014 Group 1 Maturity Classic, FINALIST 2014 Group 1 Megastar, 2015 Group 1 Paws of Thunder

“Former star sprinter and now with a couple of hit outs over this journey, he appears to be hitting the line quite well in his races. Last week he rolled to the early lead and he built up a massive lead mid race before scoring in a smart 42.47. I'm expecting him to find the top again tonight, however he will cop a lot more pressure than last week and that means he may actually fold up a little quicker. If he gets away mid race he can win but I don't think he is quite strong enough yet to score.”

Box Four – Ada Mary
Brindle Bitch – 27.7kg – June 2012
High Earner x Silver Shiraz
Prize money: $100,139
Trainer: Sharon Grey
Career: 46: 15-6-4
From box: 4 starts: 1 win, 1 placing
T/D: 16: 5-2-3
T/D Best: 42.33

“Ada Mary has been racing in great style of late and three runs back it took the great Sweet It Is an eternity to reel her in. She has since followed that run up with a top placing here last week and she is capable of going one better if she can cross Shoulders in the run to the first bend. She has won five of 16 over this track and trip and I'm expecting a bold showing in this.”

Box Five – Bourbski Fever
Black Bitch – 27.6kg – October 2013
Buck Fever x Midnight Movie
Prize money: $130,086
Trainer: Andrea Dailly
Career: 24: 7-3-2
From box: 3 starts: 1 win, 0 placings
T/D: 2: 0-0-1
T/D Best: 42.59
Career Highlights: WON 2015 Group 1 Bold Trease

“Bourbski Fever just keeps on getting better with every run and although beaten last week, her effort to qualify for the final was enormous. I'm expecting her to settle well back in the field like normal but they should spread out in the run, so it will make it easier for her to navigate her way through traffic. She showed at Sandown Park that she can run time when coming from off the pace and I think this track will suit her racing pattern. She is going to be fairly short but with any sort of luck she should be winning.”

Odds to win the Summer Cup: $3.00 with William Hill

Box Six – It's A Bird
Fawn Bitch – 30.0kg – June 2013
Hondo Black x It's A Blur
Prize money: $18,039
Trainer:
Career: 22: 9-4-4
From box: 1 start: 0 wins, 1 placing
T/D: 3: 0-1-1
T/D Best: 42.62
Career Highlights: WON Maitland 25.03, 35.31, Bulli 26.18

“Armed with smart early speed and if she pings away she should match Ada Mary and Shoulders in the early stages. She isn't overly strong and I think she will have to work hard in the middle stages, so I don't think she will make much of an impact.”

Odds to win the Summer Cup: $15 with Bet365

Box Seven – Wild Fire
Blue Dog – 34.0kg – January 2013
Where's Pedro x Lachlan's Gift
Prize money: $38,813
Trainer: Mark Gatt
Career: 44: 9-12-10
From box: 1 start: 0 wins, 1 placing
T/D: 6: 2-1-2
T/D Best: 42.52
Career Highlights: WON Richmond 35.78, Bulli 26.53, Richmond 30.61

“Talented chaser when on song and if he had drawn the red, I would have given him a serious chance, however from the wide draw he is likely to settle back in the field and he will probably be posted wide for most of the journey. He is going to need too many things to go his way and I can't see him featuring.”

Odds to win the Summer Cup: $23 with Sportsbet

Box Eight – Luna Jinx
Blue Bitch – 26.2kg – May 2012
x Hannah's Jinx
Prize money: $202,545
Trainer: Gavin Harris
Career: 57: 19-12-7
From box: 7 starts: 2 wins, 3 placings
T/D: 2: 0-0-0
T/D Best: 42.57
Career Highlights: WON 2015 Group 1 Superstayers, 3RD 2015 Group 1 Bold Trease, FINALIST 2015 Group 3 Lizrene, 2015 Group 3 Topcat Video Cup

“Extremely hard chaser to follow but she is blessed with a ridiculous amount of talent and if she decides to show her best she is more than capable of scoring. The wide draw doesn't suit but if she can somehow get across and find the rail, she will be able to make a strong move and make her presence felt. You can't really tip her with any confidence but if she goes around at silly odds she might be worth an investment.”
