2015 Young Star Classic final – free tips & full betting preview

GROUP action takes centre stage at on Saturday night with the running of the Young Star Classic over the 490 metre trip.

The David Hobby-trained Marvellous Martian is the $2.75 favourite with Bet365 and comes into the event having won his past three starts. The son of Collision and Amanda recorded a slick 27.33 heat victory here last week and has drawn favourably in box two for the $25,000-to-the-winner decider.

Also well in contention is the flashy Who's Got Snoop off box one. The blue fawn chaser holds a near record 27.15 over the track and trip, will be assisted by box one and looks a good price at $3.25.

Few runners in the race are bred as well as number five, Channing, which is a son of Irish chaser Razldazl JayFKay and former star sprinter El Brooklyn. The brindle speedster ($4) seems to have a fair bit of ability himself and must be respected, despite being drawn in the squeeze box.

The Group 3 Young Star Classic is race five on the card and will jump at 11:32pm AEDT.

Lets check out the form of each finalist, with tips and comments from Australian Racing Greyhound‘s form expert, Brad Bugeja.

“Who's Got Snoop is an exciting talent and he has won nine of his 13 tries at Mandurah in dazzling style. He hasn't been as reliable early in his most recent efforts but in his early days he was a and he was consistently running around the 27.30 mark. From the red draw, he should be able to fire through and assume control early and if he finds the top he should be winning.”

T/D: 5: 3-1-0
T/D Best: 27.33

“Super talent who has been airborne since coming across from Victoria. He has won three on the trot over this track and trip and he has continued to get faster with every victory. From the two draw, he should be able to follow the red through in the initial stages and if he balances up in the top three, he should be right there at the end. I don't think he can reel the red in but he should give him a nice fright.”

“Hit or miss early but has a fantastic record here and she is capable of running the hands off the clock. Last week she led all the way in 27.78 and although the time wasn't great, she is capable of going much faster. The biggest concern for her tonight is the amount of speed which is drawn around her, so she will need a lot of things to go her way in the initial stages.”

Box Four – Cobra Clutch
Dark Brindle Dog – 33.5kg – May 2013
x Mini Emily
Prize money: $9,705
Trainer: Jamie Marsh
Career: 8: 4-1-2
From box: 1: 0-0-0
T/D: 5: 3-1-0
T/D Best: 27.37

“Showing plenty of promise and was far from disgraced when placed in his heat last week, however he has been hindered by the poor draw. He has a heap of speed drawn on either side and with the five being a railer, he is likely to get squeezed out in the first 50m. Can feature with a clear run but I can't see that happening.”

Box Five – Channing
Brindle Dog – 33.8kg – March 2014
Razldazl Jayfkay x El Brooklyn
Prize money: $8,885
Trainer: Wayne Jacobson
Career: 7: 3-1-1
From box: 2: 1-0-0
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 27.39

“Explosive talent and his two runs in WA have been enormous. Last week he speared the lids and was never in doubt when posting a sizzling 27.39 heat victory, if he can ping the lids again and cross, it should be all over. The only problem is that there is an abundance of speed drawn underneath and he might have trouble getting across. Might not win tonight but I expect him to take all before him in WA in the coming months.”

Box Six – Trusted
Black Dog – 34.0kg – June 2013
Where's Pedro x Entrust

Trainer: Wayne Jacobson
Career: 21: 7-2-4
From box: 3: 0-1-1
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 27.67

“Rails draw was a big advantage when scoring a handy 27.67 heat win. Tonight from the six draw he is likely to miss away and he will most likely be trailing for most of the journey and I don't think he is good enough to give these chasers a head start.”

Odds to win the Young Star Classic: $21 with Bet365

Box Seven – Mullenax
Black Dog – 31.7kg – July 2013
x Kerminator
Prize money: $16,930
Trainer: Enzo Crudeli
Career: 30: 2-8-6
From box: 4: 0-0-2
T/D: 13: 2-1-5
T/D Best: 27.69

“Has only won two of 31 and last week he caused a big upset when scoring in a steady 27.92. He is likely to get a long way back again tonight and I can't see him taking much ground off these classy chasers.”

Odds to win the Young Star Classic: $41 with Bet365

Box Eight – Serena Fly High
Black Bitch – 27.5kg – June 2013
x Sky Fly High
Prize money: $16,998
Trainer: Steve Withers
Career: 25: 7-3-2
From box: 5: 2-2-0
T/D: 3: 1-0-1
T/D Best: 27.30

“Interesting chaser, she is blessed with enormous talent but she doesn't always show it. Last week she exploded out of the boxes and was never in doubt when posting a 27.30, however from the wider draw tonight I think she will have trouble getting across and she isn't the same chaser when not on the . Has the talent to win but I can't see her getting across from out here.”
