2016 Group 2 WA Derby – best bookmaker odds & betting preview

RAMIFICATIONS is on track to score his first feature race success when the lids fly open for the WA Derby (520m) at Cannington on Saturday night.

Trained by leading mentor Chris Halse, the son of Barcia Bale and Disco Girl has won five from seven over the trip at the newly opened race track and ran a credible fourth in last month's Perth Cup behind local star Ima Wagtail. The January 2014 whelp is the $3.70 favourite with William Hill to claim the title, but will have to overcome box eight to land the cash against a quality field.

Monaro Monelli is the most fancied greyhound to topple the favourite at $4.20 and will get every chance after coming up with an ideal draw in box one. The black dog ran second in his heat behind Eisenhower last weekend, but is capable of improving on that effort off the cherry. A winner of eight from 22 overall, his biggest concern is at the start as he can be a little hit and miss away, however he should be capable of mustering along the fence in the early stages and putting himself into a prominent position.

Eisenhower, which recorded a neat 30.17 in winning his qualifier, has drawn box four in the $40,000 to the winner event, but bookies still consider him a danger at $5 with . The regally bred son of Razldazl Jayfkay and El Brooklyn has run some scintillating times around Northam and, while he is yet to show the same brilliance at Cannington, he is capable of just about anything on his night.

Victorian chaser My Silver Chisel, $6.50, was far from disgraced in his heat at his debut over the track and trip when finishing second behind Ramifications. The David Burnett-prepared greyhound was well away from box one but was swamped late by the local dog, clocking a respectable 30.36 in defeat. A runner-up in this year's Group 2 , there is no doubt he has the ability to be competitive in this race however he will have to do everything right at the start after coming up with box five.

Shell Shocked, which clocked a best of night 30.11 when winning his heat last Saturday, represents big value at $10, however he is awkwardly drawn in box seven on the inside of some speed. He does come into the race in top form though, having won three of his past four starts.

Junk Yard Wolf was the remaining heat winner last week, clocking a moderate 30.57. He will need a lot of luck from box six despite owning a 30.20 personal best at Cannington.

The field is rounded out by Blank Space (box two) and West On Gaz (box three) which both ran second in their qualifiers and are given rough hopes at $26 and $10 respectively.
