Best odds and runners to watch for in Group 2 QLD Derby heats

THREE heats of the Group 2 Queensland Derby (520m) are scheduled to be run at on Thursday night, featuring some of the top young dogs from the Sunshine State as well as NSW and Victoria.

The favourite to take out the final on April 21 is 's which is $3.65 in Bet365's all in market. The brindle chaser will exit box one in the second heat, going into the race with five wins from just seven starts.

The major concern facing punters is the fact the only time he has been beaten is from the inside (boxes one and three), but he has a stack of talent and is learning all the time so should get every chance to run a blinder.

France Soir is on the second line of betting to take home next week's $50,000 winner's . Rated a $6.50 shot, the son of Magic Sprite and Magic Capers has run some times at Dapto (29.57, 29.60) and managed to clock a respectable 29.74 at Park last month.

Trained by Rob Cooke, the black dog is yet to have raced around the Brisbane circuit, but with two weeks between his last run and Thursday's race it is a safe bet to assume he has had a look at the track in between.

Sharing the $6.50 quote with France Soir is Darren Russell's Tripum which is a last start 30.28 winner over the track and trip. The speedster will go head to head in his heat with France Soir (box one) when he exits wearing the white rug on Thursday evening.

Fabulous Bill and are both racing in consistent form, reflected in their $7.50 price to take out the final, while My Silver Chisel and are also given a look in at $8.50.

QLD Derby heat one – 7:43pm

France Soir (1) is debuting over the track and trip but it is safe to assume he has had a trial going into a series such as this. Has been racing consistently since making the move to Victoria and loves an inside draw. Likely to be headed early but can hold his spot on the fence and is capable of coming from just off the speed in his races.

Fabulous Bill (2) has been racing well without winning, taking on some strong top grade company in his most recent starts. He is generally a pretty quick beginner and should be able to outpace the one in the run to the line on the first occasion. He should be running around the 30.00-30.10 mark and that would see him finish in the money.

Tripum (3) bounced back to his best last start after a few below par runs. From box eight he was afforded plenty of room early and was able to lead all the way in 30.28. Will need to go better than that to win this, but he does hold a 29.76 personal best so is more than capable of improving.

Zabdon Lambo (4) is facing a massive rise in class and is giving away plenty of experience, but is prepared by Tony Brett who is one of the best in the business. Won here last start in 30.25 so still needs to find a few lengths but should be afforded a few favours with a vacant box on his outside.

Kidatee Dan (8) brings consistent form into the race and could prove cheeky from the outside.

Suggested bet: WIN bet on France Soir at $3.65 with Bet365

QLD Derby heat two – 8:07pm

Thirty Talks (1) is the odds on favourite for this race. He looks tough to beat, but there also a bit of value in the field.

Tilly's Boy (8) is probably better boxed towards the inside of the track, but he does have a dog on his inside which should run towards the fence and give him a nice cart into the race. He has posted some slick sectionals and overall times lately, including 29.81 at Wentworth Park three runs back, and would give a great sight out on the bunny.

Magical Yessam (7) comes into the race full of confidence, having won his last three including the Auction series final. Capable of beginning quick and is helped out by a slow beginner on his inside.

Windorah Jack (2) has won his last two at Albion Park including a 30.08 victory at the end of last month. Can position up well from the inside and run a nice race.

Thirty Talks is hard to overlook – he has a stack of ability but is a bit too short to back with confidence off the inside.

Suggested bet: WIN bet on Tilly's Boy at $5 with Bet365

QLD Derby heat three – 8:25pm

Dundee Osprey (7) is a highly talented Victorian and he looks beautifully boxed out wide on the track. The last time the son of Fabregas and Dundee Rose jumped wearing black he scored a sizzling 29.11 win at Sandown Park, if he can bring that form to QLD he will be mighty hard to beat. Can be slow into stride but has another ordinary beginner on his inside and should be able to wind up and find a nice spot early.

King Size (1) is beautifully drawn on the inside and should be able to hold his spot on the fence and run a nice race. Capable of getting around the 30.00 mark so he is going to be competitive.

My Silver Chisel (6) comes into the heat having raced against some of Victoria's best at his most recent starts, the box draw being his biggest concern here. If he happened to jump he would be right in the race.

Zabdon Ferrari (3) is racing in good form, having won three of his past four, but this is a pretty big rise in class.

Suggested bet: WIN bet on Dundee Osprey at $4 with Bet365
