Geelong Cup 2015 – free form, tips and betting preview

Dalgetty is all the rage to take out this Friday's Group 2 Geelong Cup on the back of his slick 25.32 heat victory last week. Trained by leading mentor Jason Thompson, the son of Stagger and Rockin' Along has drawn beautifully in box one for the $47,000-to-the-winner feature and will be aiming for his 10th career victory at start 15.

Punters who think he will win will have to be happy with a short price, with $1.70 through Bet365 the best odds available for the promising black pup.

Shared Equity looks likely to be up near the lead in the decider, despite drawing awkwardly in box five, and should be right in the mix if she can reproduce her 25.48 heat win.

The regally-bred daughter of Brett Lee and West On Bluebird has been racing at the elite level over the past few months and has held her own against some of the country's best sprinters, with $5.50 with Sportsbet a nice price if you believe she has the class to overcome the poor draw.

The best of the rest appears to be Cut Loose Max which powered to the line when scoring his heat in 25.73 last week. He will be assisted by the favourable draw, with trainer Geoff Howell giving him a top chance when he spoke with Australian Racing Greyhound earlier this week.

The Group 2 Geelong Cup is race eight on the card this Friday and is set to jump at 9:28pm AEDT.

2015 Group 2 Geelong Cup – 460 metres

Box One – Dalgetty
Black Dog – 32.3kg – April 2013
Stagger x Rockin' Along
Prize money: $22,910
Trainer: Jason Thompson
Career: 14: 9-2-0
T/D: 3: 3-0-0
T/D Best: 25.32
Career Highlights: WON The Meadows 29.81, Sale 24.81, Warragul 25.58

“Up and coming superstar and if he can step cleanly he should be able to avoid early bother and score. Last week he began well and he always looked in control when posting a blistering 25.32 heat win and, if he repeats that, it is very hard to see him getting rolled. My biggest concern with him is that I expect Share Equity to ping the lids and cross him in the early stages and if that happens he can't afford to find any bother in running. He does look boxed to win and he is my top tip but he is under the odds.”

Odds to win the Geelong Cup: $1.70 with Bet365

Box Two – Cut Loose Max
Black Dog – 32.0kg – March 2013
El Galo x Girl Aloud

Trainer: Geoff Howell
Career: 29: 8-7-1
T/D: 3:1-1-0
T/D Best: 25.73
Career Highlights: WON Sandown Park 29.36

“Continues to improve and impress and last week he absolutely powered to the line when posting a strong 25.73 heat win. He has the ability to begin well but I still think he will be giving the likes of Dalgetty and Shared Equity too big of a head start, so he is likely to have trouble reeling them in. The draw should suit and he should get a nice run through, so he is a must for all of your exotic bets.”

Odds to win the Geelong Cup: $15 with Bet365

Box Three – Paua To Roar
Black Dog – 33.7kg – September 2012
Head Bound x Paua To Erupt
Prize money: $91,366

Career Highlights: WON 2014 Group 3 Nowra , 2ND 2015 Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint, FINALIST 2014 Group 3 , 2015 Group 2

“High class NSW speedster and he really caught the eye with his strong 25.70 heat win. If he had drawn the pink tonight I would have given him a serious chance of causing an upset, as he does have explosive speed and he is capable of matching the top picks early when he gets away on terms. From the awkward draw though it appears he is going to need to many things to go his way early.”

Box Four – Yeah Whatever
Blue Dog – 33.8kg – February 2013
x Swiper Lulu

Trainer: Angela Galea
Career: 20: 5-4-2
T/D: 3: 1-1-0
T/D Best: 25.78
Career Highlights: WON Sandown Park 29.47

“Shows promise and has run good times in most of his career wins, however this is an enormous rise in class for him and from the middle draw he is going to find this beyond him. There is speed drawn all around him, so I'm expecting him to get squeezed out soon after box rise.”

Odds to win the Geelong Cup: $41 with Bet365

Box Five – Shared Equity
Black Bitch – 28.9kg – February 2013
Brett Lee x West On Bluebird
Prize money: $104,515
Trainer: Angela Langton
Career: 38: 19-3-2

Career Highlights: 2ND 2015 Group 2 Bendigo Cup, 3RD 2015 Group 2 Warrnambool Classic, FINALIST 2015 Adelaide Cup, 2015 Group 2 Horsham Cup

“Explosive beginner and in recent weeks she has been back to her brilliant best. Last week she speared the lids and reeled off best of the night sectionals when posting a sizzling 25.48 heat win. The draw isn't the best but if she comes out like she did last week she should be able to cross the red and she will then be able to give a great sight on the . If Dalgetty lands right behind her I think she will struggle to hold him out, but if he loses a length or so in the run, she may just steal the race.”

Odds to win the Geelong Cup: $5.50 with Sportsbet

Box Six – Amaro Bale
Red Brindle Dog – 30.8kg – March 2013
x Princess Bale
Prize money: $72,425
Trainer: Andrea Dailly
Career: 54: 12-14-7
T/D: 1: 1-0-0
T/D Best: 25.84
Career Highlights: 3RD 2015 Group 3 SA Derby, FINALIST 2015 Group 1 Silver Chief Classic, 2015 Group 1 Harrison-Dawson

“Ultra consistent chaser and he showed a good turn of foot when scoring a 25.84 heat win last week. He has a similar draw tonight but there is a lot more speed engaged and he definitely won't be able to get things his own way out in front. Has good place claims but I'm happy to risk him as I think he will be finding a lot of trouble in running.”

Odds to win the Geelong Cup: $41 with Sportsbet

Box Seven – Black illusion
Black Dog – 34.7kg – January 2013
Collide x My Secret Shiraz
Prize money: $77,490

Career: 62: 16-9-4
T/D: 2: 1-0-1
T/D Best: 25.64
Career Highlights: FINALIST 2015 Group 1

“Beat the exciting Sulzanti here last week and he reeled off brilliant early and middle sectionals in doing so. The problem with him is that he has always done his best racing when he can lead and dictate the terms in his races, with the likes of Dalgetty and Shared Equity in the race, he is going to have trouble crossing and getting into contention.”

Odds to win the Geelong Cup: $21 with William Hill

Box Eight – Benta Bale
Black Bitch – 27.0kg – February 2013
Turanza Bale x Bala Bale
Prize money: $36,005
Trainer: Andrea Dailly

T/D: 2: 1-0-1
T/D Best: 25.68
Career Highlights: WON Sandown Park 29.61, The Meadows 30.04

“Strong effort to score in her heat last week and she is drawn to be thereabouts again. She races best when drawn out wide and last week she really powered to the line, if she can step evenly tonight she should settle midfield and if they bunch up in front of her she should be able to sweep into contention mid race. I don't think she can win but she is a must for the exotics.”

Odds to win the Geelong Cup: $18 with William Hill

1st Reserve – Ernest Bale
Black Dog – 35.4kg – August 2013
Turanza Bale x Cara Bale
Prize money: $38,795

T/D: 5: 2-3-0
T/D Best: 25.58
Career Highlights: WON The Meadows 30.36, Sandown Park 29.48

“Beaten in his heat last week but he was probably the most impressive of all the finalists. He settled behind Dalgetty in the run and he took a heap of ground off him in the closing stages. Unlikely to start but if he did he would have genuine claims.”

Odds to win the Geelong Cup: $7 with Bet365

“Consistent chaser who is never far away in this class, unlikely to gain a start but he would have strong place claims if he did start.”
