Greyhound Racing Tips For Saturday 22nd August 2009

Welcome to Australian Racing Greyhound's Greyhound Racing Tips for Saturday 22nd August 2009 with Tips tonight from The Meadows (Victoria), Wentworth Park (New South Wales), and Cannington (West Australia).

Another big night of “Nationals” greyhound racing coming our way tonight with the Victorian Sprint Championship Final at The Meadows and both finals of the New South Wales National Distance Championship and New South Wales Championship at Wentworth Park. All the way over at Cannington, we also see the West Australian National Sprint Championship Heats and the West Australian National Distance Championship Heats with those runners running for state finals berths that as host state will guarantee two Nationals finals spots.

Apart from the tantalising clash of Smart Betsy vs at Wentworth Park in the New South Wales National Distance Championship, all of Queensland will be focussed on the Victorian National Sprint Championship at The Meadows. In short High Earners hopes of a National Sprint Championship Final berth hinge on Velocette winning tonight's Victorian National Sprint Championship from box 8.

Meanwhile up in Sydney, Victorian greyhound trainer Darren McDonald is aiming to secure a matching pair of Nationals contenders after Vintage Octane won his way through to the National Distance Championship at Sandown Thursday night, with youngster Lucatoni in the New South Wales National Sprint Championship Final at Wentworth Park. But also has triple threat potential with Gardam Prince starting for him in the Victorian National Sprint Championship at The Meadows.

In that race Gardam Prince will face stiff opposition from Graeme Bate trained runners as Bate is looking for his own matching pair of Nationals finalist's after secured the National Distance Championship's eight selection as the highest non-winning AGRA ranked state National Distance Championship finalist. Bate will start Velocette from box 8, Keeko Bale from box 5 and favourite Turanza Bale from box 1 in the Victorian National Sprint Championship.

Add to that the fact the West Australia's Nationals heats get underway at Cannington in Perth, and high profile New South Wales bitch Nova Surf makes her Wentworth Park debut and tonight should be highly entertaining, so with Greyhound Racing coming at us from The Meadows (Victoria), Wentworth Park (New South Wales), and Cannington (West Australia), let's recap out betting advice for tonight's tracks.

The Meadows races over the 525m, 600m and less frequently the 725m distances and the track definitely favours railers; it is almost impossible to make ground once you get wide on the track at The Meadows. The inside 3 boxes are favoured over the 525m, and the inside 4 boxes over the 600m. The outside boxes are a decided disadvantage over the both the shorter distances.

Wentworth Park went from being a very fair track to a leader biased track with the addition of “transition turns” to the corners in the mid 90's. Leaders have been advantaged ever since that track modification and consequently red are small advantage over both the 520m and 720m distances now.

Cannington is one of the better two tracks which does tend to give greyhounds off the speed a chance to run on. Both the 530m, and 642m distances the inside boxes and the 1 box has a slight advantage over the 715m distance.

The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 4 – Box 2 –Roman Bale

Someone smarter than us must know when this greyhound is going to show his best, but he has been costly around here at The Meadows. Has start 13 times here for just the one win and started favourite in many of those. His one win was a 30.09 effort. so he really should have a better record at this track than he does. Has had two confidence runs for good wins at Warrnambool and Shepparton, so should be returning here fresh. Last chance, needs to win this.

The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 7 – Box 7 – Regal Blaze

Regal Blaze won well at Sandown Thursday week ago and ran 29.78 coming from off the pace to win by 2 lengths. Hasn't started here probably due to his enigmatic box manners, but this greyhound can step and if he does that tonight, should win this easily. Will get no opposition from Miss Opie on his outside early, so no excuse not to push forward. Fast greyhound at his best and has great record from box 7.

Victorian National Sprint Championship Final – The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 3 – Gardam Prince

Gardam Prince run an explosive 4.98 from an ideal draw in the heats from box 1 and now has to contend with a less than ideal draw, which is not something he is used to. Must step up and be counted tonight if he is to be considered a true star, but early pace win races and Gardam Prince should lead. Will have to run right up to his best to hold of Velocette and Turanza Bale who will both be charging late.

Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 3 – Box 7 – Mantra Jewel

The Christine Oldfield trained Mantra Jewel has started at Wentworth Park 5 times for 3 wins and has an immaculate box 8 record. Has to contend with starting one box to the left, but has record good wins of 30.22 here, 30.92 at , 30.13 at Dapto and 26.68 and 29.08 at Bulli. Has definitelty inherited much of the pace of her damline being by Malfoy~ but can be dissapointing as well. Have to expect she'll show her best tonight.

Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 4 – Box 3 – Punk Appeal

Fantastic night to finally get on Punk Appeal and win a lot of money. Tends to start unders when she is a big chance and tonight from box 3, several might risk her. But with noted crasher Lorna Moira to her left in box 2, Punk Appeal should both get room to move early and a greyhound to trail. Only has to hold Lorna Moira's heels early and will comfortably blitz past her late. Very strong finisher who needs a little luck early but is very fast.

Wentworth Park National Distance Championship Final – Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 6 – Box 6 – Forty Twenty

Smart Besty vs Forty Twenty vs Samshing Amy. Don't really think is in the same class of the other two at the moment and Smart Betsy will definitely push forward early allowing Forty Twenty room to find his balance and a position. He was dissapointing last start and looked unfocussed trailing Smart Betsy who beat him by 5 lengths, but he is way better than that run and a more focussed Forty Twenty will get his chance to run hard at Smart Betsy late tonight. Will not be much between the two but fancy he'll have his nose in front when it counts.

Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 7 – Box 6 – Nova Surf

All four of the outside greyhounds will be pushing forward early here and that usually spells chaos, but can't see any of the inside division running any of these down if they get away with maybe the exception of Mr Bolt. But Nova Surf who has become somehtingof a group race professional placegetter, has returned to racing with two dominant wins at her home track at Maitland and is obviously going very well after a short break. Has some prime performances beside her name behind the best greyhounds in Australia and although on debut at Wentworth Park, has a ton of early pace and should be able to rest the lead and set up a big mid race break.

Wentworth Park National Sprint Championship Final – Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 3 – Foxhill Bella

Intriguing state sprint championship final with the scratching of Ticabond who would have been some hope. As we've said before just put the pen through Cosmic Rumble when drawn the inside, so the red box is wasted on him. Foxhill Bella looks the early leader with Lucatoni on her right shoulder. Based on last weeks run Foxhill Bella should be able to hold off Lucatoni, but Nimbastic might get in her way underneath her from box 2. Have to expect that she'll be left alone enough to go close to her stunning 29.95 run last week and win this race. Lucatoni demomstrated one of McDonald's famous/infamous 6 length improvements between his run the week prior and the heat last week, but can the magician find another 6 lengths in a week like he did with Vintage Octane?

West Australian National Sprint Championship Heat 1 – Cannington Greyhounds – Race 3 – Box 6 – Miss Slick

Miss Slick is this years Perth Cup winner and has struck form at exactly the right time with a very good WA Bred Series win last start in 30.47. Doesn't have to lead to win as she showed last start and is one of WA's leading lights and pre post favourites tto make the Nationals final.

West Australian National Distance Championship Heat 1 – Cannington Greyhounds – Race 4 – Box 8 – Miss Swip

No reason to jump off Miss Swip, who posted a career best 42.02 last week coming from well of the pace to beat Crunch by 2.26 lengths. That was her second win in a row after a Cannington 642m win over Western Land. Prefers it closer to the rail but is going so well she's well worth the risk tonight at odds.

West Australian National Sprint Championship Heat 2 – Cannington Greyhounds – Race 5 – Box 3 – Lyrical Rumble

Is yet to be beaten from box 3 in 2 starts and has won 7 of 19 starts here at Cannington. Three starts ago she won here running 30.74 from box 6 and has since finished third in both subsequent starts here. Has a PB of 30.41 here and will need to step up to close to that to win tonight but is more than capable.

West Australian National Distance Championship Heat 2 – Cannington Greyhounds – Race 6 – Box 1 – Red Shilling

Despite the presence of Western Land it is impossible to tip against Red Shilling who is flying at the moment and has won all 6 of her last 6 starts at Cannington over 642m and 715m. Has now started over this trip 7 times for 5 wins and has PB of 41.54 which is 5 lengths faster than Big Loose Buddy's race record of 41.78 and only a 2 lengths slower than Chinatown Lad's 41.42 track record. Will win this by panels.

West Australian National Sprint Championship Heat 3 – Cannington Greyhounds – Race 7 – Box 1 – Uno Dylan

Uno Dylan resumes from a break here but has an excellent record from box 1 having won 3 of 6 starts and has won 10 of 22 starts over this track and distance. Recent from before the break was very dissappointing but have to expect a rejuvenated zest for racing off the break. Has a PB of 30.26 and only needs to race with a 3 lengths of that to win tonight.

West Australian National Sprint Championship Heat 4 – Cannington Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 1 – Daisey Reltub

Daisey Reltub gets a chance to steal the last of the state sprint heats tonight from box 1 for Linda Britton. Has started twice from box 1 for a win but from inside draws has won half of them. Is fourth up from a spell and should be ready to show her best. Has won 6 of 17 starts here and has a PB of 30.44 which will win this easily being the weakest of the sprint heats.
