NSW Sprint and Distance Championships – odds and free tips

THE best sprinters and stayers in New South Wales will converge on Wentworth Park this Saturday night for the finals of the NSW Sprint and Distance Championships.

Held over the 520m and 720m respectively, the winner of each race automatically qualifies for the National final over each distance, both of which are set to be run and won at Angle Park on August 27, 2016.

The first feature to jump will be the NSW Sprint final at 9:12pm, with dual group winner Knight Sprite the $2.30 favourite with Sportsbet. The son of Magic Sprite and Jaydo's Neglect comes into the race having won two of his past three starts over the track and trip including a fast 29.89 effort last Saturday.

The black dog is drawn ideally in box two with slow beginners either side of him which should give him every chance of leading from go to whoa.

Bessy Boo, $9, will be aiming to qualify for an unprecedented third National Sprint Championship, having made the group 1 decider in 2014 and 2015.

A rising five year old, the Christine Proctor-trained greyhound is still racing well and knows every grain of sand at Wenty – having won 31 races at the Ultimo circuit.

The classy Brad Hill Billy, $10, recently had a stint over the half mile before dropping back down over the sprints for this series and he was far from disgraced when placing second behind Compare in his heat last week.

He was slow to move on that occasion and had to work hard to put himself into the race, going down by just one and a half lengths in 30.25.

Box five will do him no favours in the final, but he is a class animal and is capable of winning from anywhere.

Brad Hill Billy's younger half brother Dandy Jack is rated a $5.50 shot to win his way to Adelaide and looks a solid chance from box eight. The black dog generally shows great early speed and if he can get away well from the eight he will be right in this event.

Less than an hour later the lids will fly for the Distance decider, with classy stayer Cardiology the $2 top elect with Sportsbet.

The regally bred daughter of Where's Pedro and Amnesia has won four from six over the track and trip including a personal best 42.11 in her heat last weekend.

Jumping from box one on that occasion, the black bitch sat in second spot in the early stages before making her move, scoring by a widening nine and one quarter lengths on the line.

Whittaker is the most favoured runner to beat the favourite at $3 and he proved he is back to his best with a 42.33 win last start. The November 2012 whelp has won five races over the 720m trip at Wentworth Park and is well drawn in box two to find a nice spot on the fence in the early stages.

More In Store is the next best at $6 following on from her handy second behind Whittaker in her heat. Working her way from the back of the pack, the daughter of Kinloch Brae and Lady Arko was beaten four and one quarter lengths on the line.

If she can repeat her 42.03 personal best she will be right in the mix despite being drawn awkwardly in the four.

The NSW Sprint Championship is race six on the card, with the Distance final set to jump as race eight.
