Speed Star – best match race odds and free betting preview

ALL eyes will be on Sandown Park this Thursday night for the running of the third Speed Star series.

The event will see eight of the fastest greyhounds to have raced or publicly trialled at Sandown Park between June 1 and August 28 compete across four two-dog match races, with the winner of each match race pocketing $10,000 and the fastest overall winner receiving an additional $15,000 and the Speed Star title.

The current favourite for the entire feature is Zambora Brockie at $2.10 with Sportsbet, with the son of Nitro Burst and Flying Liddy having qualified the fastest courtesy of a 29.14 win over the track and trip in July.

He will start from the inside trap in the third match race against Dyna Boomer, the least experienced greyhound in the top eight, who has four wins from just seven starts including a 29.35 victory at Sandown Park. Dyna Boomer is an outsider to take out the Speed Star at $17.

The first event of the night looks an open affair, with Lisa Cockerall's Polijuice Potion ($9) taking on Allen Terminator ($31), with both greyhounds having qualified within half a tenth of each other.

Expect Allen Terminator to jump in front in the early stages, with Polijuice Potion doing her best work late to ensure a competitive battle down to the line.

Match race two should also be a close contest, with the ultra-consistent ($7) taking on Shima Song ($8.50).

Jesaulenko qualified for the event with a 29.37 trial at Sandown Park on August 21, however, prior to that had recorded a slick 29.13 over the track and trip back in January.

It will be an interesting event with both Jesaulenko and Shima Song having good early toe, with the latter having recorded a nippy 5.01 to the first mark last Thursday night before stopping the clock in 29.30.

The final match race will be an intriguing battle with both ($6.50) and ($4.50) known for their strength.

Group 1 winner Dundee Osprey comes into the event following a fourth in the Championship at , with the son of Fabregas and Dundee Rose having trialled at Sandown prior to that in a slick 29.24.

Alternatively, Burn One Down comes into the Speed Star having recently raced over the staying trips, however the black dog is capable of adjusting to the drop in distance, as shown in his 29.28 trial here last Sunday.

The first match race will jump at 7:46pm, the second at 7:57pm, the third at 8:07pm and the fourth at 8:15pm.
