Happy Haswell Dominates 2014 Group Three Ipswich Cup

The trained Happy Haswell reaffirmed that he's one of the country's most promising young dogs in the Three on Saturday night.

Kay had told ARG through the week just how good he thought Happy Haswell could be.

“If he only had a little bit more early pace, he could be one of the best dogs in Australia for his age,” Kay said.

The 31kg blue brindle dog, who has only just turned two, franked those comments by scorching to an 11 1/2 length victory in a rapid 30.23.

After leaving box four in fourth placing, the son of and Teenage Dream ( – Size ‘Em Up) quickly mustered pace to lead by the post the first time and avoid trouble on the first turn.

He quickly opened up a huge margin and most eyes would have been rather than worrying about any chance of him losing the race.

The victory was not without drama when Farmer's Gold (6), who had fallen on the first turn, rejoined the race in the home straight. Fortunately any interference he may have caused was minimal and had no bearing on the outcome of the winner or any of the placings.

Le Sirenuse (1), who began well this week ran a fair race to finish second while Yogi Blue (2) ran on well for third.

Of the beaten brigade, Placid Planet (10) was second into the back straight before tiring to finish fourth. Regal Lauryn (8) looked as though she may be running into a place when she collided with her kennel mate, Placid Planet, on the home turn and finished fifth.

Cyndie's Special (3) began moderately and found plenty of trouble on the first turn finishing sixth. Hopping Houdini (9) showed none of her customary early speed and was never in the hunt, finishing seventh.

Farmer's Gold (6) actually had more luck than anticipated at box-rise and found his was to the fence before running into the back of Le Sirenuse and falling heavily just as he looked to be moving into a handy position.

All honours were well and truly with the winner who racked up career win number 15 from just 20 starts and took his stakes earnings beyond $88,000.
