Little Change At The Top In The AGRA National Greyhound Rankings
Written By Kevin Pitstock Wednesday 4th March 2009
Last month, El Galo and Fedex shared the lead in the AGRA National Greyhound Rankings, ahead of stayers Lilley Criminal and Gunnadoo Magic.
And this month, the top four stay the same. Both El Galo and Fedex added another 105 points to the totals to share the rankings lead with 175 points. El Galo added his points from just 3 runs in February, a Group 1 Temlee win at the The Meadows, followed by a Group 1 Australian Cup Semi Final win and his second to Velocette in the Final, both again at The Meadows.
Fedex too scored all his points from just three runs in February, starting with his Group 1 National Derby win at The Gardens, followed by a second to El Galo in the Group 1 Temlee and a 4th in Group 1 Australian Cup Semi Final.
Ever consistent stayer Gunnadoo Magic raced 3 times in February at group level all at The Meadows for a narrow second to Vintage Octane in the Group 2 Zoom Top, a 4th in her heat of the Group 1 Australian Stayers Trophy and a valiant second to Lilley Criminal in the Group 1 Australian Stayers Trophy Final. That added 45 points to Gunnadoo Magic’s total to see her just slip below Lilley Criminal in the rankings.
Lilley Criminal was able to secure outright third in the rankings by scoring 50 points from her 2 starts at Group Greyhound Racing level in February, running third in her Group 1 Australian Stayers Trophy Heat and then leading all the way to absolutely demolish the field in the Group 1 Australian Stayers Trophy Final winning by 6.25 lengths in 42.63.
Other notable movers in the rankings were, Velocette who raced in to fifth spot with 70 points by virtue of his impressive Group 1 Australian Cup Semi Final and Final wins.
Listed below are the rankings as they stand at the end of February 2009. The ranked positions are determined by a points system applied to group races on a sliding scale of points first to eighth.
