Miss Elly Mint Winning The 2009 Gosford Gold Cup

Miss Elly Mint won her thirteenth race in in row on Tuesday night, winning the $25,000 to the winner 2009 Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Gold Cup.

A big crowd braved the heat and packed the Gosford track for last night’s Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Gold Cup and they weren’t disappointed with boom bitch Miss Elly Mint ($2.90) producing a memorable performance.

Her thirteenth straight win was one of her best, trainer Robert Smith enjoying another Christmas present.

“It was really a bonus to me, she did her job when she won the Christmas Gift. We are all very excited,” Smith said.

Miss Elly Mint beat home long-shot Hendrix ($44.90) by three lengths with the Richard Dean trained Repeated ($14.20) in third.

Reg Kay’s Size Can Matter started favourite but could only manage fourth, and the well-supported Rockstar Image disappointed, finishing sixth.

The $25,000 winners cheque was gleefully accepted by connections of Miss Elly Mint – they’ve now won over $137,000.

“This bitch is just everything that we want from her, we are not professionals, we are amateurs and they are all businessmen that I train for”.

The many punting supporters of Miss Elly Mint now turn their attention to Wentworth Park on Monday night where their star is chasing a fourteenth straight win, but Smith knows his bitch has already done her job in winning the race he’s been chasing for six years.

“Monday night doesn’t matter. Whether she wins 14 in a row or not, tonight was a bonus, a very good bonus”.

After the placings the field finished in the following order 4th Size Can Matter ($2.60), 5th Thai Alert ($16.80), 6th Rockstar Image ($4.40) 7th Seditious ($69.00) and Lucky Fina ($19.70).

Miss Elly Mint is raced by the Ray Watson and trained by Robert Smith in New South Wales she is a White & Blue bitch whelped April 2005 by Elite State from Indigo Mint (Awesome Assassin x Kobie Bale).

Miss Elly Mint has won 35 of her 55 starts and has been placed on 11 occasions and his current stake earnings stand at $137,390.

The Gosford Cup became the clubs feature race for the year when they changed their surface to loam in 2003.

At the same time a circuit of NSW Country Cups was started.

It was a Group 3 race worth $10,000 to the winner to start with and has risen in status and profile to Group two in 2006 and again was worth $25,000 to the winner.
