Miss Slick Too Slick In Schweppes All Stars

Miss Slick Winning The 2008 WA Oaks Earlier This Year
Starting a short priced favourite at $1.70, Miss Slick had to find plenty when back third at the half way mark to run down youngster Cider Syrup ($20.30), winning by a half length in 30.49 with Ace That ($5.80) getting up for third.
Miss Slick begun well from box three, but was headed early by Where’s Blue and Cider Syrup however she mustered coming around the home turn before railing brilliantly to claim the $40,000 first prize.
She has enjoyed a solid year on home soil becoming WA’s fastest ever bred greyhound when she recorded 30.02 during the Schweppes WA Oaks series a Group 2 feature she won back in April.
The win carried an extra bonus of $5,000 for the breeder if the winner was a WA bred greyhound and another $5,000 if WA owned. Owner-trainer-breeder Max Julien collected all monies.
Julien, a former Victorian boy and brother of long time Greyhound Weekly editor Alan would dearly love to win a feature race in Melbourne and after 30 years in the sport believes he finally has the dog to do it.
Miss Slick was bred by Max and his wife Pam from their former talented race bitch Little Lamplight.
Miss Slick has been racing in career best form and is currently WA best sprinter she has won five of her last six 6 starts, and is on target to be crowned the WA greyhound of the year.
Her main rival Elektra now retired from the track after a very impressive year highlighted by her win in the Group 1 Sky Channel Galaxy.
The covered award may be determined by how Miss Slick performs during her Melbourne campaign.
Should Miss Slick perform well at Sandown in the Sapphire Crown she may even stay in Melbourne to compete in the rich Schweppes Melbourne Cup her two wins in the Group 2 features out west gives her an automatic start in the heats on November 20.
Miss Slick is raced, trained and was bred by Max & Pam Julien she is a Black bitch by Bombastic Shiraz from Little Lamplight (Light Of Fire x Ginsin). Miss Slick has won eighteen of her 44 starts and has been placed on 20 occasions with the $40,000 first prize for the All Stars took her current stake earnings to $179,450.
After the placings the field finished in the following order 4th Where’s Blue ($6.40), 5th Glen Abbey Cecil ($15.30), 6th Shelly Reltub ($32.10) 7th Bomabo ($29.20) and Rudd Mudd ($10.50).
The All Stars Sprint has always been a major event on the Cannington Calendar every year since first run in 1977. Listed below are the previous winners.
