My Mate Cobber Qualifies Fastest For All Star Final

proved once again that he still has what it takes, securing a rug in next weeks $40,000 Two All Star final. Although On Coin's return to the winner circle held great importance to the crowd, My Mate Cobber stole the show and recorded the fastest heat time of 30.56 on a very wet track.

Deputy Chief for was the surprise victor in the first heat of the night after flying out of the boxes to lead from start to finish. With favouritism shared between Astronomic (box one), Tiggerlong (box two) and Takahashi (box four), punters showed little support for Deputy Chief who ending up paying $26.00 for the win.

Victorian Tiggerlong Amigo staggered out of the boxes and that forced him to play catch up to the quick jumping Astronomic and Deputy Chief. He missed out on the victory by three quarters of a length in a winning time of 30.93. Astronomic held on for third, with Living Proof making a run for it late in the race to round out the first four.

The second heat of night went to the trained Four Paw Glory, who led all the way after crossing to the rails out of the boxes. Luba Monelli (box one) and You Can Dream (box two) were his only worries heading into the home straight. You Can Dream snuck in on the rails with Luba Monelli taking the outside route, but both failed to catch Four Paw Glory who went on to win by one and a half lengths in 30.85. You Can Dream held on for second with Luba Monelli finishing third and Ozzie Bullet (box four) retaining fourth place.

The third heat of the night was the one everyone was waiting for. As expected On Coin started as $1.90 favourite from box four with Coconut Grove second favourite starting around the $4.00 mark. On Coin flew out of the boxes meeting You For Real (box one) on the rails. After crossing You For Real as the field hit the catching pen, On Coin asserted his dominance, extending his lead to five lengths in the back straight. Meanwhile Coconut Grove had plenty of work to do trying to find his way past You For Real, Burundi (box seven) and West On Santo (box three). On Coin began to tire in the home straight, allowing Coconut Grove to make ground on him with ease to just miss out on the win by half a length in 30.88. You For Real finished third and a late surge from Houdini Monelli (box six) saw him finish fourth.

The last heat of the night saw favouritism shared between Linda Britton's duo Te Amo (box two) and My Mate Cobber (box seven). Out of the boxes the duo matched strides until the long legs of My Mate Cobber carried him to lead. From then on My Mate Cobber raced away, leaving Te Amo, Cee Sheen (box one) and Thunder Rama (box six) to sort out the minor placing's. In the driving rain My Mate Cobber won by eleven and a half lengths in an impressive time of 30.56. Cee Sheen used the outside of the track to run second, leaving Te Amo and Fully Tricked (box four) to finish third and fourth respectively.

The box draw was unable to be conducted on the night due to an injury sustained by Cee Sheen who finished second in the last heat.
