Queen Lauryn Stakes Claim For Bracelet

Queen Lauryn Winning The 2008 Group 2 Bogie Leigh Queensland Futurity FinalThe Tony Brett trained Queen Lauryn set the Wentworth Park track on fire last Saturday night, speeding over the 520m in the course record time of 29.44, smashing the previous record by .07 seconds.

It was obvious from the jump that the Queen was flying as she recorded sections of 5.39 and 13.74 on her way to a 14.25 lengths win over Engulf.

Needless to say Queen Lauryn will be sent out a short price favourite in the final next week.

That’s not to say she has the race on a platter as there were several other good performances on the night and the box draw has done her no favours.

Second fastest qualifier, the other Queenslander, Tricode Flojo, recorded a very smart 29.96 and has fared very well in the box draw coming up with the one marble. While Queen Lauryn is a deserved favourite, she has drawn awkwardly in box 6 and will need to be on her best behavior.

Other heat winners on the night were Timmy Caines Miss Beeslee (30.14) and Ron Bell’s Lorna Moira (30.30).
