Vintage Octane Winning Brilliantly At Sandown

AGRA’s Run of the Month for July 2008 has been awarded to young Victorian sprinter Vintage Octane.

In an extraordinary first start performance Vintage Octane recorded the fastest ever maiden win at Sandown Park and in doing so earned him the AGRA July run of the month.

No doubt Vintage Octane’s ability was well known as he started a $1.40 favourite in his maiden heat at Sandown on Wednesday July 23rd.

Coming out of box eight he found the early lead and was in no danger from that point on he carved out sections of 5.25 and a best of the day 19.03, but it was his run home that was so impressive racing away from the opposition he went down to the line to win by seventeen and half lengths in a staggering 29.58. A race record maiden win and the fastest time ever recorded by a maiden or a first starter.

Amazingly sent to the boxes a $1.10 favourite in the maiden final on July 31st Vintage Octane missed the start and had to be content with second place behind Special Sign in 29.81.

Vintage Octane is a fawn dog whelped October 2006 by Pure Octane from My Girl Georgina (Awesome Assassin x Ashlee Jeannine) he is raced by Mark Hunter who raced his sire Pure Octane and horse racing media indemnity Deane Lester.

He is trained by master Victorian mentor Darren McDonald who also trained his sire and he has raced twice for a win and a second with his current stake earnings standing at $1790.

He is superbly bred, with his dam already producing fast sprinters Life of Brian and Winoki to Go Wild Teddy plus Lochinui and Mister Twink to Mountain Dry.

Vintage Octane is a full brother to Octanol who earlier this year won the Group 2 WA Derby and finished fourth in the Group 2 Young Star Classic last week in Sydney.

Vintage Octane was the stand out run for July with some track records going under in different states, for sheer speed in such a young dog he got the nod.

Vintage Octane joins the previous AGRA Run of the Month winners Birthday Boy, Queen Lauryn (2), Elektra, Knocka Norris and Made to Size.

AGRA congratulates the owners Mark Hunter & Deane Lester, trainer Darren McDonald and Vintage Octane on being judged the AGRA Run of the Month for July 2008.
