Sweet It Is sets a unique record in 2015 Distance Championship
STAMPING herself as one of the greatest staying greyhounds ever seen in Australia, Sweet It Is became only the chaser to win back-to-back National Distance Championships, emulating the effort of Queensland star Boronia Blossom, which took the national title in successive years in 1995 and 1996.
Sweet It Is also set a new track record for the 720 metres trip at Wentworth Park, running 41.52 to clip 1/100th from the previous mark held by the great Xylia Allen. That is the sixth time in the 47 runnings of the National Distance Championship that the final has borne witness to a track record performance, and the second time it has occurred at Wentworth Park.
Sweet It Is collected $75,000 for her eight-and-three-quarter-length victory, thus taking her earnings to an amazing $977,850, and it seems just a matter of time before she reaches the million dollar mark.
In the history of the Nationals, Sweet It Is ranks as only the 15th stayer to make the final two years running. As mentioned, she joins Boronia Blossom as the only dual winner. Of the other 13 dual finalists, only Julep (1989), Paradise Street (1998) and Dashing Corsair (2011) managed to win the event.
The first time a new track record was set was in 1974 when the final took place at Angle Park. Champion Victorian stayer Corcoran downed South Australian star Ascapella Miss by a length in 44.56 to set new figures for the 731 metres trip.
At Hobart in 1978, NSW stayer Dusty Ginny scored by five lengths over the 730 metres journey, running 43.30 to set new track figures.
The next time a new track record was recorded in a Distance Championship final wasn't until 2002 when the Victorian champion Boomeroo won the final by seven lengths over 710 metres at Albion Park and ran 41.61.
In 2005, the final was held at Wentworth Park and the mighty Texas Gold completely dominated the race to score by 10 lengths in a blistering 42.07.
The following year the final took place over 720 metres at Launceston and it was South Australian champion Bothing who won the race by just over five lengths in a new track record time of 42.49.
When Boronia Blossom won her second successive National Distance Championship title, in 1996, she collected $20,000 for the victory and took her earnings beyond the $200,000 mark. For her two wins alone, Sweet It Is has collected $150,000.
Overall, Sweet It Is has raced 65 times for 24 wins, 16 seconds and five thirds and is racing in career best form at present with eight wins and two seconds from her past 10 outings.

Is sweet it is as good as people think she is seems she needs some drugs in her to make her go .She shouldnt even have been allowed to start in the distance title until the positives in new zealand were finalised .Can anyone tell me if the finns that have the epo positives in nsw and finn that has been warned off as a defaulter are related to finn with sweet it is .It sounds as though the finns are trying to out do the bates family with positive swabs.
If they breed with her you would have to be crazy to want a pup out of her because her pups might need to be doped to win also. All the finns should get life brcause they are all drug cheats.
