Human resources and people management professional Maureen (Mikki) Swindon will join the Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) board, Deputy Premier and Minister for Racing Rob Hulls said today.
Mr Hulls said Ms Swindon brought to the GRV board more than 20 years’ experience in government, human resources and people management.
“Ms Swindon is a strong supporter of Victoria’s sporting industry and her leadership and business skills will be of significant benefit to GRV as the greyhound industry continues to grow in Victoria,” he said.
“Ms Swindon will bring a wealth of leadership and business knowledge to her role as a GRV board member during her three-year appointment.”
Mr Hulls said Ms Swindon was currently the head of the Transport Accident Commission’s Human Resource Department.
She replaces former board member Noel Pullen.
“Mr Pullen has made a fantastic contribution to the GRV board over the past three years and I’d like to thank him for his advice and support of this strong industry,” Mr Hulls said.
GRV is the body responsible for promoting and controlling the sport in Victoria.
Mr Hulls said approximately 800 greyhound race meetings were held each year across 14 venues throughout the state.
“The greyhound racing industry makes a significant contribution to the Victorian economy, both as a recreational pursuit, and as an industry that employs thousands of people,” he said.
“GRV distributes more than $20 million dollars in prize money every year and works hard to be an innovative industry through ongoing research, education and dedication toanimal welfare/a>
“In order to ensure that GRV maintains its high quality of service and its excellent standing and reputation within the Australian and international racing industry, it is crucial that it maintains a strong, capable and effective board.”
