All Hail The Newest Sensation In Greyhound Racing

Brilliant youngster Hooksy appears to be greyhound racing's newest up and comer, after a magnificent debut performance at last night in a heat of the Three .

The son of Hondo Black and blew his rivals away by thirteen and three quarters lengths, sizzling around the 520m distance in a time of 29.44.

Trained at Tatura by Tanya Auld, Hooksy is now the heavy favourite to take out the $25,000 to the winner series, after seven competitive heats were conducted last night.

Heat one went to Dad's Ambition ($6.10) for Peter Mccann in 30.40. Devine Vegas led the way for a majority of the race, before the 35kg son of rattled home in the latter stages to score by half a length. $2.70 favourite Classy Sahara failed to get across from the wide draw and finished in fifth place.

Peter Lagogiane took out heat two with promising youngster Raincheck ($7.90). A litter brother to previous heat winner Dad's Ambition, Raincheck mustered good pace to cross the field after an average start to lead throughout in 30.21. Favourite runner Invictive finished fifth after finding early trouble.

Favourite backers were finally rewarded in heat three when Cawbourne Whip ($2.10) put in a solid performance, scoring by two and a half lengths in 30.12. The trained chaser had an early battle with Fashion Princess and Mike Lowrie, before streaking away up the home straight, clocking a respectable 11.93 run home.

The heavily backed Silent Effective justified his short odds of $1.90 in heat four, with an excellent performance from box one, clocking a flying time of 29.54. The trained greyhound had huge wraps placed on him after a near record 24.93 win at last month and will be a strong contender in next weeks semi-finals.

A member of the highly-talented Daydream litter, Fusaichi Kahn ($8.00) made the trip down from Queensland with trainer and put in a beautiful display in heat five, leading all the way in a fast 29.71. Short-priced favourite My Kinda Music ($1.90) failed to fire from box seven and finished fourth.

The final heat went to another outsider in Lacey Lois ($9.80) for , leading all the way from box seven in 30.27. Favourite runner King Odessa was gallant in defeat, finishing second behind the winner by three and a half lengths.
