Betfair Turn Wentworth Park Gold

Saturday Night's Group 2 Gold Cup heats at mark the commencement of the Association's betting exchange partner's greyhound racing feature race sponsorship. And what a way to start proceedings!

The Gold Cup will host Australia's hottest stayers, including all three place getters, from the March 5, Group 1 Super Stayers Final at The Meadows; Bobby Bouchaeu, So Seductive and Allen Zander.

Heat one sees class runner Bobby Bouchaeu start from the seven box, pitted against reigning NSW Betfair Stayer of the Year, (Box 1) and South Australian representative Cascada Star (Box 6) for , which backs up from a sizzling win at Angle Park last Monday.

While in heat two, runner up in the January Group 1 Hotham Body Repairs ; , returns to Wentworth Park in a bid to take home the Betfair Gold Cup.

Dashing Corsair's Association Cup lead up was drama charged with the greyhound having to be air lifter by helicopter from 's home in Churchable, Queensland following floods in the region.

Lennon will no doubt be hoping for a quieter run in to this event, as he gets set to take on Kel Greenough's So Seductive (Box 6) and NSW runner , which will be looking to notch up his third successive Wentworth Park win this week.

The extent of talent in the series is extremely pleasing to officials and sponsor Betfair, who expect the depth and high profile names in the event will drive significant wagering interest on the event.

Betfair's, Hugh Taggart, believes support will come for a number of runners across both heats, proving the quality of the Group 2 event.

“Betfair is delighted to be the major sponsor of the Gold Cup and both heats look to be excellent betting races,” Taggart said.

“On paper Heat One appears to be a battle between New South Wales stayer of the year, Blue Lorian and progressive staying star, Bobby Boucheau. But don't be surprised to see Cascada Star and Loud Mouse well supported.

“So Seductive should start a well deserved favourite in Heat Two after his outstanding staying performance a fortnight ago at The Meadows, while Kalden Mayhem looms as the main danger. There are also plenty of supporters for the Queensland veteran, Dashing Corsair, so discount him over this distance at your peril,” Taggart offered.

With the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg carnival just weeks away, many are expected to use the Betfair feature as a lead in to the Globe Memorial Easter Chase heats, on April 16.

All eyes will be on Wentworth Park over the coming weeks as racing action turns gold!
