Black Magic Opal Shines In Peter Mosman Heats

With nine spectacular heats of the Group One Rapidvite Peter Mosman held last night at Wentworth Park much of the early hype surrounded heat one with the freakish engaged for his first NSW start since joining the powerful kennel last month.

Lining up from box five the son of Magic Sprite and Awesome Opal did not disappoint displaying a front running performance to land the heat in a brilliant 29.77 seconds- easily the best time of the night. The stunning black greyhound has had three starts for Thompson for three emphatic victories including near track record times at (25.03 seconds) and Shepparton (24.93 seconds) whilst the in his heat brought up win number sixteen from a mere twenty starts.

Five lengths behind the supersonic sprinter in second position was 's consistent Where's Wob who ran a terrific race from box three with another Magic Sprite youngster Jonardo slipping into third position a further one and a half lengths away.

Also highly impressive last night was the Jane Carruthers prepared Triggsy who took out heat four with a phenomenal last to first performance. After an average beginning from box four he found plenty of congestion in the early stages and had to navigate his way through the field but his class prevailed in the end finishing over the top of leader Black Rip to claim the event by one and three quarter lengths in a slick 30.12 seconds.

Triggy's triumph made it two heat winners out of the first four for boom sire Magic Sprite, who is in fact owned and stood at stud by the Carruthers at Journey Park. Triggsy was also bred by the Carruthers being out of their ill-fated broodbitch Elizabeth Royal who was a fantastic racer herself and seems to have thrown plenty of her speed into her talented pups.

Gold Town's affiliation with the Ultimo Circuit remained strong with the 32 kilogram chaser claiming heat five in a nippy 29.92 seconds. Beginning brilliantly in a fast 5.39 seconds the son of quickly found the front and from there the race was over with the black dog stretching out to win by three lengths on the line.

Fellow Victorian Schroder Bale stuck on well in second position for whilst raging favourite Jagger Swagger could only manage third nine and a quarter lengths behind second after a slow beginning. Gold Town has now won twelve races from forty four starts and certainly loves Wentworth Park where he has recorded a blistering personal best of 29.49 seconds.

Xylia Allen continued to shine taking out the seventh heat for champion trainer Graeme Bate. Fresh from her triumph in the Group One Sapphire Crown last month the daughter of Turanza Bale and Tayah Bale ran her typical resilient race to take out the event by four and a half lengths in a great 29.93 seconds. The black bitch was the last greyhound to leave the boxes and looked in doubt going through the pen for the first time however once finding her feet Xylia Allen slipped into another gear with her performance nothing short of amazing.

Running an honest race in second position was Clockwise giving Jane Carruthers her second runner through to the semi's with the pint sized bitch a litter sister to Triggsy who scored in heat four as mentioned above. Five lengths behind Clockwise was Flaming Frenzy for Justin King who ran an honest race back in third position.

Double Twist was a strong winner in the ninth and final heat for Nowra Hill's Garry Edwards. Showing good zip from box two the 25 kilogram lightweight was outpaced in the run to the first turn but was able to sit on the pace in second position behind Osteria Mozza down the back before dashing past the leader to win by three lengths in a quick 29.92 seconds.

The group three Nowra Summer Puppy Classic winner is as consistent as they come with fifteen starts for ten wins and four seconds with three of those wins being at Wentworth Park including a scintillating 29.65 seconds triumph in April defeating fellow heat winner Black Magic Opal.
