Finn’s Track Record Deja Vu
You could be forgiven for having a serious case of Deja Vu whilst watching race three at Maitland today, as Cranebrook trainer Melinda Finn claimed her second track record in a matter of weeks, this time over the 450 metre distance. In a heat of the Maitland Future Stars series over 400m three weeks ago Finn's promising youngster Winsome Jacko achieved what no greyhound in history had done prior and broke the 22 second mark, recording a sensational time of 21.98.
Today however, was all about superstar prodigy Winsome Prince, who notched up his eighth win in style by thirteen and three quarter lengths and kept his perfect career record in tact. Despite being third away best away from box six, the only son of Barcia Bale and Winsome Shiraz showed electrifying pace to whizz past early leader Most Arrogant, recording a sizzling second sectional of 18.07, with a speedy run home of 6.72. The overall time of 24.79 was astonishingly 0.08 seconds better than Paw Licking's previous track record of 24.87, set in a heat of the Maitland Cup back in March.
After being forced to scratch in a fifth grade final at Maitland three weeks ago, Finn was confident her charge would perform better than his previous personal best time of 25.07.
“I was disappointed when I had to scratch him from the final at Maitland because I thought he would've gotten close to the record that day, but it worked out well.”
“I haven't had a chance to watch the replay yet, but he looked to have jumped good from box six.”
Winsome Prince will now make his anticipated debut at Wentworth Park next Friday in the Maitland to City Final and is guaranteed to attract plenty of attention as we witness the rapid rise of this truly gifted chaser.
