Fire Break Wins Pop Northfield Memorial Maiden Final At Casino

A quick beginning form the five box gave unbeaten puppy Fire Break victory in the Pop Northfield Memorial maiden last .

Clearly the most consistent runner in the series with three straight wins, he went straight to the lead and although being chased keenly by the runner up Miss Noodles, held too many “guns” to run out a winner by 1 1/2 lengths.

Trained by Jan Finneran for the Magnay family, his time of 23.11 was a little slower than in his lead up races, but the time compared very well to the best recorded on the day – 23.06.

Favourite and fastest qualifier Bralyn Stripesled throughout to take out the Westlawn Sprint Final. Although he dwelt slightly at the start, he was able to muster good speed to take up the running after several metres. He held this advantage all of the way to hold out litter brother Bralyn Alvin by 1 1/4 lengths in 23.07. Brad and Lynne Northfield own, train and bred the litter that have built up an imposing record.

It was Darryl Armfield's Road Toll that did run the fastest time of 23.06 when he won the Ranvet stake. Trailing the pace to the top turn where he got a rails run, he raced away to win by 4 3/4 lengths. Having won over the 484 meters here in fast time, he was always going to be hard to beat with a clear run.

Firefly Curly made a “one act affair” of the Rural Taders maiden, scoring by seven and a half lengths. She began speedily and got around a jamming pack at the first bend before racing away. She clocked a creditable 23.33 for trainer and owner George Bennett.

On Pop Northfield day, Charlie and Toni got into the action with two winners. Miss Jodito snuck through late to win the distance race in 36.02, whilst litter sister Kingsbrae Sam continued her good form with another win. She led all of the way and clocked 27.35 in a 3 1/4 length victory.

It was good to see Ray Quartermaine return to the winners circle when Heart Of Bani got home with a full head of steam to take out the Mc Donald's Phamacy maiden in 28.06, while 's chaser Tobruk pulled out in a big run down the side before winning a fifth grade by 2 1/2 lengths in 23.51.

Sammy's Tears lived up to a good trial the previous week to win the Casino RSM Club stake in 27.63 for , and Kulu Storm was never headed saluting in the Royal Hotel stake. He ran 27.87 for Bill and Penny Gilbert.

Queensland visitors John Pay and Joanne Price both had winners with Cool Five running 23.39 for John, and Fawn Zipper clocking 23.97 for Joanne.

Casino will hold a twelve race TAB card again this Friday.
