GRNSW Refuse Attendant’s Application From King

Greyhound Racing NSW () today confirmed that an application by permanently disqualified person Ray King for an attendant’s licence has been refused.

King was disqualified for life following investigations by the Independent Commission Against Corruption into the affairs of disgraced former Chief Steward Rodney Potter throughout the late 1990’s.

King was found guilty by the Greyhound Racing Authority Regulatory Committee in February 2003 of corrupt conduct after the Committee investigated his association with Potter at that time. He did not appeal that decision.

considered several references from leading industry figures supporting his return to racetracks and submissions made in interview by King in April 2010. They considered King’s previous record in relation to drug offences, which was, in their opinion, unsatisfactory and represented somewhat of a disregard for the Rules at the time.

In determining King’s application, was obliged to consider whether, the licencing of King was in the best interests of the Greyhound Racing industry. After considering all of the circumstances involved, believes that to grant King a licence would not be in the best interests of the industry.

is of the view that the offences alleged against King were in the worst of categories and the penalty imposed of disqualification for life was appropriate. These views have been upheld in Appeal judgements on other individuals involved in the affair.

In the alternative, King made application to be allowed to return to racetracks whilst having no status within the industry, however this too was regarded as to not be in the industry’s best interests and this application was also refused.
