Hallinan Thrilled With Tricky Jade’s Triumphant Return

Clergate trainer Martin Hallinan took out another feature race on Thursday at with Tricky Jade, who was flawless from start to finish in claiming the Rocky Ridge Gold Cup and collected $25,000 for her efforts.

Jumping brilliantly from box three, the impeccably bred daughter of Hallinan's own breed of and Navigator Miss led throughout in a record-breaking time of 29.59, shattering the previous 516m record which stood at 29.71.

“I listened to the race on the way to Albury and when I heard she was in front, I thought she would be hard to beat if the favourite couldn't get near her,” said Hallinan.

“Dubbo need to give themselves a huge pat on the back for getting a sponsor like Rocky Ridge and putting on a race worth $25,000. It was an honour to win the race.”

Tricky Jade began her career with Richmond Vale mentor , who set her for the Three Mega Maiden series at Wentworth Park last year, where she made the semi-finals after an impressive heat win of 29.86. After finishing third in her semi-final, Tricky Jade went on to win three of her next four races and clocked some sizzling personal bests at Richmond (30.41, 535m), Wentworth Park (29.56, 520m) and Park (29.56, 515m).

Mackay then stepped up Tricky Jade to the testing 618m journey at Richmond, where she notched up a victory in a time of 35.92. After a five-month spell during the middle of last year, Tricky Jade made a triumphant return over the short courses at Richmond and , clocking smart times of 22.55 over the 400m and 25.13 over the 450m.

Hallinan received Tricky Jade from Mackay after somewhat of a form slump over the past three months, with her performances over the past two weeks showing that this smart chaser still has the ability to notch up a few more feature race wins.

“I've been taking all the old girls back off trainers and just fiddling around with them. I have been in greyhounds for 40 years, but haven't trained for about eight years, so I'm still learning a lot at the moment by picking the brains of experts.”

“My sons Damien and Cameron are keen on training so that's the reason why I got back into it. We have been having a great run of late and I told my sons you have good times and bad and we will just enjoy the moment and hopefully keep getting some good dogs.”

Martin and wife Fiona have become household names in greyhound racing for their astute breeding and rearing facilities at their Clergate property, just outside of in New South Wales. Tricky Jade's mother Navigator Miss, is a highly successful broodbitch, having produced the likes of Zipping Weston (29.50 at ) and Zipping Bruno (25.08 at Maitland), and is due to have a litter by sometime next week.

The Hallinan's also bred and raced multiple group one winner , who is now a successful stud dog and continues the Hallinan dominance of breeding excellence Australia-wide.
