John Scholten Resigns As Lismore Racing Operations Manager

Long standing Racing Operations Manager, , has tendered his resignation.

Mr Scholten, who commenced working with the NSW at its then Annandale Office in 1976 had taken extended long service leave during the past 12 months during which time he pursued musical interests in .

The popular Manager was due to return to duties at Lismore in early April but this week chose to call it a day.

“I have had a wonderful career with the NSW GBOTA and really enjoyed , but I just think it is right for me to move on now,” Mr Scholten said.
“Lismore has come a long way, it was great to be part of that and to work with two very positive Area Directors in Joe Cotroneo and prior to him, Len Herbert.

NSW GBOTA Executive Officer, , spoke highly of Mr Scholten's skills and dedication to Lismore.

“When John started at Lismore, it was a struggling track, racing on grass,” stated Mr Scott.

“Today, Lismore boasts a first class sand track, second to none patron facilities and a strong and loyal customer base.

“John played a central role in the realisation of all progress at Lismore and can look back on his time with the NSW GBOTA with immense pride.”

Area Director, Joe Cotroneo was also quick to acknowledge Mr Scholten's attributes. “John was scrupulously fair and always put Lismore first,” explained Mr Cotroneo.

“In his own way, he was quite innovative…he was, in my view, the first to get sporting clubs involved on a weekly basis and this promotion is still a cornerstone of our business 20 years down the track.”

Mr Scholten intends spending time between Australia and America in coming years and will further pursue a music career which now boasts two independent albums and a third planned for production in July.

Lisa Vanderstok has managed the Lismore track on a casual basis during Mr Scholten's long service leave.

Management arrangements for the future will be discussed at the next meeting of the NSW GBOTA Directors on March 17, 2012.
