Murray Disqualified For Four Months For Two Methyltestosterone Positive Swabs

have concluded separate inquiries into analyst's reports that urine samples returned by Solitary Sam and Knocka Who, trained by Mr Tim Murray, had, on confirmatory analysis, been found to contain the 17alpha-methyl-5alpha-androstane-3beta, 17beta-diol, and 17alpha methyl-5beta-androstane-3alpha, 17beta-diol, which are metabolites of the steroid methyltestosterone.

Solitary Sam returned the positive sample after winning at on 18 February 2011, and Knocka Who after winning at The Gardens on Wednesday 30 March 2011.

An initial was held on 2 June 2011, and adjourned until 11 July. Evidence at these inquiries was tendered by Mr Murray, Dr Cawley, Dr Suann and Mr Keledjian all from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL), and Dr Young from the Racing Science Centre Queensland.

During the course of the inquiry it was established that the probable source of the prohibited substances was through of prescribed tablets thought by Mr Murray to be Canitone.

Analysis of these tablets by the ARFL disclosed the presence of methyltestosterone.

Mr Murray was found to be in breach of GAR 83 (2), with two separate charges laid. Mr Murray pleaded guilty to both charges. Mr Murray was disqualified for four months on each charge, with both penalties to be served concurrently.

Solitary Sam and Knocka Who were disqualified from their respective wins per GAR 83 (4), with Mr Murray directed to return prizemoney.

Stewards also invoked GAR 95 (5) and deferred the commencement date of the disqualification period for seven days, to take effect 18 July 2011.

Mr Murray was advised of his right of appeal.
