Northfield’s Breeding Success On Show At Casino Greyhounds

A slick beginning ensured fastest qualifier Bralyn Riley victory in the rich final of the Maiden series at last Friday.

Having drawn wide in box seven, the start was all important, and Bralyn Riley stepped out well to get straight onto the bunny and lead all of the way. The other semi final winner, Beau We Know, made a strong in the middle stages, but he was no match for the winner, who won by seven lengths in a fast 23.17.

He's owned and trained by Brad and Lynne Northfield who tasted success earlier in the day when litter brother Bralyn Terry broke his maiden status. He also led throughout, and ran 27.74 over the 484 metres. The brothers are by “boom” sire from Brad and Lynne's good stayer Bralyn Mel.

Actually all of the Northfield family have been successful breeders on the Northern Rivers for many years. Their mark on the Industry was certainly shown in the Casino RSM Club Free For All where all of the seven runners were direct descendants of the family's brood bitches.

The race was won by Proper Lucy who has been performing well in the GRNSW's Country Challenge series. She railed through on the circle to nose out in a speedy 23 seconds. is her trainer.

Faultless beginner Jolly Jonna came out running to run the best time of the day over 484 metres – 27.26. The trained sprinter was never going to be challenged, and won by 10 3/4 lengths.

Chris Schafer's Propela ensured a good party on Friday night when it took out the penultimate fifth grade event. Having been contesting top grade races at recent starts, it certainly appreciated the drop in grade, and won by 6 3/4 lengths with a “leg in the air'. A personal best of 23.21 was recorded.

Trevor Thompson's “Rose Hi ” breed continued on their winning way when Judy Rose Hi took out the distance race by a length in 36.18, and Peg Rose Hi won the lucky last by 2 1/2 lengths in 23.09. The latter is trained for Trevor by .

's good trot was also kept going when wide runner Pretty Knocka made a strong run in the middle stages to get the prize in 23.47, whilst the Tweed to Casino final went to Yorklea Pam. She came again to get the “nod” in 23.44 for , the king of the Tweed.

In other events, Purple Sky won the opening maiden in 23.67 for Terry Guymer; Quick And Slick saluted for Darren Crates in 28 seconds, and Rod Herr produced another long priced winner in Fight Force who clocked 27.80.

Casino race again this Friday, and all paths will be leading up to the 75th meeting on March 18th.
