Punch One Out Sets New Wentworth Park Track Record

Following an outstanding night of racing at , on Saturday night (March 23), the box draws for the Group 1 (520m), Group 1 Hotham Body Repairs (720m) and Group 3 Ambrosoli (520m Golden Consolation) were conducted.

On a night which saw some sensational results and honours shared between New South Wales and Victorian runners, the meeting highlight was the obliteration of the 520m track record by Punch One Out.

The victory in the final semi-final, stunned the crowd with 0.16 seconds being taken off the previous record held by Noble Pedro.

Trainers said following the draw that boxes haven fallen ideally for both runners, which should make next week an exciting battle.

Yet to claim the Golden Easter Egg title, Mackay said is was great that owners of both runners would now be able to get to the track and enjoy the moment.

“It has taken five starts for Punch One Out to get a handle on the start at Wenty, but everythign fell into place,” Mackay said.

“Track was in great order, and I have always know she is capable of those times, but at just 25months of age, I still think there is more to come,” Mackay added.

With five Group Race finals now drawn for this coming Saturday’s feature program, Easter Saturday night is bound to see more exceptional racing moments.
