Star Torana Set For New Sensation Semi-Finals
TALENTED sprinter Star Torana has a golden opportunity this Friday night at Wentworth Park after coming up with the inside alley in a semi-final of the Group 3 New Sensation series.
Exiting from box one in her heat last week, the 28kg chaser stepped well and sat in second position behind notable beginner No Jockey Needed heading into the back straight. Turning for home, Star Torana made one last surge to the line and scored by three-quarters-of-a-length in a respectable time of 30.13. Trainer Shaun Evans was pleased with her efforts and is looking forward to Friday night's race.
“It was a solid run last week, she never disappoints,” Evans said.
“I can't knock back the red box this week, but she does stay to the middle of the track.”
The daughter of Collision and Redskin has been in red-hot form since making her debut at the track in January, recording a solid time of 30.33 in a heat of the Macro Meats Maiden Series over 520-metres. Evans then decided to take his prodigy to the one turn track at Bulli, where she clocked a speedy personal best of 26.40 over 472-metres. Star Torana then headed to Richmond over the testing 535m distance, recording her first win at the track two weeks ago in 30.83, before returning to Wentworth Park last week.
Star Torana now has an outstanding record of six wins and three minor placings from nine career starts.
Evans isn't looking to rush his newest sensation into anything after this series, but has a couple of feature races on the radar.
“Maybe I'll look at the Queensland Futurity or Perth Oaks. I'm not sure yet, I'll just take each race as it comes,” he said.
“She's still young and hasn't even turned two so I just want to make sure I look after her and take one step at a time.”
Evans also has Aphorism engaged in a prior semi-final of the New Sensation after registering an impressive second from box six last week. The son of Collision and Fantasy Royale ran a brilliant race behind Lord Gee and still managed to record a fast time of 30.03 himself.
Aphorism will be looking to secure his fifth career win on Friday at his ninth start, with the 34kg chaser having recorded some promising times at Dapto over 520-metres (29.95) and Richmond over 535-metres (30.57).
Regardless of what happens on Friday night, Evans has two very gifted greyhounds in his kennel and expect to see them in the winner's circle plenty of times in future.
