Surin’ Sal Sets Time Standard For Blue Paws Series

Written By Kevin Pitstock, Editor & Australian Greyhound Racing Expert Contributor On Sunday 15th November 2009

Promising youngster Surin’ Sal set the time standard in the heats of the rich Blue Paws Super Series with a sizzling 27.37 win at Queen Elizabeth Park last Friday. Exiting well from box three, she had the lead at the winning post the first time, and at that point scooted away.

Her commanding lead was slowly whittled back by the well performed Allegro Charm over the closing stages, but the Maragret Dwyer trained sprinter held on to win by a length and a half.

All of her starts have been on her home track where she has now won four from eight.

Next best qualifier was the Beryl Stephens’ Karanne Star who clocked 27.44. He crossed the field from box eight to take up the running and raced away to score by 4 1/4 lengths. Zip Zip Marina won her heat for Shane Robinson running 27.54 when she got home late to win by 1 1/4 lengths, whilst Peter Simpson’s Super Trump had a little more luck than most to take out the final heat in 28.09. It was a “rough house” affair.

Greyhound Racing NSW has instigated the Super Series on the TAB circuits to showcase their Blue Paws breeding incentives. The strength of breeding in the Casino area was shown with club having no trouble in producing the four scheduled heats.

Training doubles were the order of the day with Wicked Twist making it two for Peter Simpson when she won the Charcoal Inn stake in 27.30, and first starter Miami Gold landed the double for Beryl Stephens when she ran a handy 23.50. It was good chasing effort.

Weekly visitor Claude Dacey also picked up two winners with Bassin winning the 411 metre Westlawn Finance maiden in 23.68, and then English Chariot racing away with the Mc Donald’s Pharmacy maiden in a fast 27.62.

Brother Tom continued Athol Bradley’s good trot when he led all of the way in the Casino RSM Club Free For All running 23.14, while Tylah’s Impact bettered her personal best time by winning the opening event in 23.00 seconds for Rob Ensby.

The Darren Russell trained Up And Go got home in a “blanket” finish to take out the Rapidvite Distance race in 35.94, whilst the much improved Kid Middy won the final event in 23.02 for Jim Robinson. He was yet another runner who raced well through the recent Pop Northfield maiden series, and has gone on to reach a higher level.

Casino race again this Friday afternoon with the feature being the Blue Paws Super Final.
