Wagga Set To Receive New Track Surface Upgrade

The board of Greyhound Racing New South Wales approved the schedule of work during June and the upgrade is set to commence on 8 July 2014.

Club Treasurer couldn't contain his enthusiasm when describing the work that has gone into making this upgrade a reality.

“I've been on the committee of the club for more than 20 years and this has been something we have been trying to get done for 15 of those years. It is a process that will cost in excess of $70,000 and a portion of that expense is being paid for by the club itself. We have worked very hard to get this upgrade done.”

“We are taking out the electrical work at the moment. It will make a hell of a difference to the track and will take about three weeks to complete. We are hoping to resume racing by the end of July.”

“They are taking four inches off the top of the existing surface and stockpiling that. Then four inches of the hard base underneath the surface is being removed and a waterproofing fabric is being placed there. After the waterproofing is put down we put the four inches of the old surface back on and a new four inch running surface.”

“This will make the track much safer for the dogs, we will have less injuries and the surface will be a lot softer. The safety of the dogs is paramount for the club.”

The Greyhound Club holds 26 TAB meetings each year and their flagship event is the Grahame Hull Memorial Final worth $10,000 to the winner.

This upgrade will provide a significant boost for the club and assist with the attraction of plenty of talented greyhounds in the area to compete for an array of features races conducted each year.
