Back Page Continues Winning Rockhampton Run
Written By Kevin Pitstock, Editor & Australian Greyhound Racing Expert Contributor On Monday 23rd November 2009
Back Page ran a scintillating 26.54sec on Saturday on its way to first place in the race five, 460m Outback Petfoods Best Eight at Thabeban Park.
At $1.80 for a win, the Christine Mallet-owned dog was a short-priced favourite, but let no punter down to continue its local dominance this year.
Back Page, trained by South Bingera’s Gary Thorpe, had a length on Sister Cool, while Richo’s Sugar was a further two lengths behind.
Major Billy Blue could not keep pace with the outstanding hound, bringing Yandina trainer Cynthia Elson’s dog back down to ground after some impressive runs in the Queensland Young Guns Cup in previous weeks.
Race one started proceedings off on the right foot — Missie Linder obliterating all opponents on the way to an 11 and a half-length win against Elite Looking and Not So Reckless.
The Kevin Bryan-trained dog ran an impressive 26.73sec.
Fitzburg was short odds to win the race two, Patricia Williams maiden 460m, and did not disappoint, coming in one and a half lengths ahead of High Dancer and He’s Tryin’.
The Paul Burgess dog relegated Minnamurra Darl, Cobar Sweetheart and Diamond Tulsa to the also-rans.
Gotta Be Happy paid $7 to win the race four, Row Family Fifth Grade heat, meaning Broken Hill trainer Raymond Cole was just that.
In the final two races, Rome Fury won a tight race in the Coral Coast Linemarking Fourth Grade 460m.
It pipped Oh Danny Boy by a length, with Brandon River a further head back.
In the final race of the day Carly Bale, another Broken Hill dog, was well and truly the fastest.
Oh My Papa and King Size Lorian made up the minor placings, but were both more than three lengths behind the Cole and Partners greyhound.
