Grandstand Issues Forces Albion Park Abandonement
As reported yesterday, issues with the Russ Hize Grandstand at Albion Park have forced the abandonement of tonight’s greyhound meeting at Albion Park.
The announcement is a big blow to the Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club and their sponsors as tonight’s meeting was to have featured the running of Big Dog Pet Foods Queensland Cup and an appearance by the Big Dog Bunnies.
In a public media release, Mr Phil Bennett, Chair of the QGRA; has stated that “as a result of consideration overnight of the issues with the Russ Hinze Stand, the GRA has decided to err on the side of caution to cancel the meeting to be held at Albion Park tonight.”
“There is a remote chance that there could be an issue which would put the welfare of the race caller, lure driver, judge and cameraman into question and it has been decided that this chance cannot be taken.”
Mr Bennett has further gone on to “apologise to all greyhound participants who had greyhounds entered tonight and in particular to those participants who have travelled from interstate for the final of the Big Dog Queensland Cup.”
The QGRA has announced that it “will provide appropriate compensation to those interstate participants. A determination regarding prizemoney allocated for the Big Dog Queensland Cup will be made in the near future.”
The QGRA are currently in the process of attempting to move the Friday twilight meeting scheduled for Albion Park to one of the other TAB venues and a decision will be made shortly.
The QGRA have asked that anyone wishing to scratch their dogs from that transferred meeting will be able to do so without penalty and to compensate participants for any extra travel costs the unplaced prizemoney paid will be doubled to $20.00.
