Written By Wednesday 5th November 2008

Coming to light just days afterGreyhounds Queenslandissued a warning regarding possible sources of positive swabs to Theobromine, Queensland greyhound trainer John Judd has been found guilty of a positive swab to the same substance.

On the 31st of October 2008, Greyhounds Queensland Stewards convened an inquiry in relation to the urine sample taken from the greyhound Simply Spoty On which competed on the 12th of September 2008 at the Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club in Race 10 (placed 5th) and subsequently returned positive to the drug Theobromine.

Stewards directed Trainer Mr. John Judd of Milbong to appear, and evidence was taken from Mr. Judd and Mrs Judd.

Stewards charged the Trainer under GAR 83 (2) (a) (d) which states;
(2) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound
(a) nominated to compete in an Event
(d) shall present the greyhound free of any drug

Mr. Judd pleaded not guilty as charged, but was found guilty and subsequently fined $250 for the offence. Stewards also disqualifiedSimply Spot Onthe race at Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club meeting on the 12th of September 2008.

Given the timing of both announcements, there is no doubt Mr Judd is the first several trainers to receivepositive swabslinked to the use of milk replacement product Palastart Blue Calf Milk Replacer which has been found to contain traces of theobromine.

New South Wales GHRRA Stewards announced back in May 2008, they would no longer conduct inquiries in to positive swabs to Theobromine, after a spate of positive swabs which were linked to the popular greyhound kibble Winning Edge Platinum in April of this year.
