Mr. Metz A Hot Thing In Young Guns Heats

Written By Kevin Pitstock, Editor & Australian Greyhound Racing Expert Contributor On Wednesday 18th November 2009

Promising young greyhound Mr. Metz will be firing this Thursday night when he makes his return to Albion Park this Thursday night.

The Ron Ball-trained performer will line up in the Greyhounds Queensland Limited (GQL) Young Guns Heats after having more than a month’s break from Brisbane where he won in 30.13 on debut.

Mr Metz had a freshen up over the straight at Capalaba last Saturday, for another dominant win, and looks to be a strong favourite even from box five in Heat Three (Race Four) at Albion Park.

The GQL Young Guns is an exciting Queensland race series for up and coming starts from the Sunshine State. The final is worth $10,000 to the winner.

Mr Metz should find the lead early considering his debut first sectional of 5.64, but will be met by top opposition in box one, with Sandra Hunt’s Lilly’s Pride.

Lilly’s Pride dominated from box two, two weeks ago at Albion Park, running a solid 30.34 with a 5.74 first sectional.

Heat One (Race Two) will be a tough race to pick, with a quality field of youngsters.

Margaret Quarrell’s Explosive Impact has been running impressively recently, climbing the grades consistently. Jumping from box three, he will definitely be one to charge home in the dying stages.

In box six, potential star Gnarley Boy will make his eleventh appearance in brisbane, after showing promising form early in the year, but struggling lately. On his day, he could beat this field.

Another to keep an eye on in this race is Unlucky Ginga who has been performing well at Ipswich, with this his second start in Brisbane.

In Heat Two (Race Three) Myth Buster is the words on everyone’s lips after showing promising form at Capalaba recently, and posting blistering first sectionals at Albion Park.

If he can finish off tonight he will be a top chance for trainer Tom Tzouvelis, who was pleased with his second placing last Thursday night.

A first starter to Brisbane is box one’s Fence Post, who has been winning consecutively at Ipswich.

Perfect Student is never one to overlook either. Jumping from box seven, Perfect Student pulled out a career best win on Monday night at Albion Park.

Heat Four (Race Five) is sure to see the two inside boxes battle it out for the lead with Hanson Petrie in box one, and Pure Surf in box two.

Based on best times, Pure Surf should start favourite, but Hanson Petrie has been improving with every run, and comes off the back of a top win in Brisbane on September 17.

Picking Heat Five will also be a tricky task, with proven Barry Morris-trained greyhound Side Cutter in box one, Michael Brauer’s Golden Duck in box two, and Sandra Hunt’s Lady Diaz in box eight.

While all have shown winning form at the Creek, punters would expect Golden Duck to come out firing again this week after being narrowly beaten last week.

The last heat of the night (Race Seven) will see Vociferous out to make amens after an unlucky run in the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars three weeks ago.

Vociferous is promising to be a top chaser for trainer Ron Ball, and is expected to come out blazing this Thursday night.

However, Sandra Hunt’s My Amigo is going to make it difficult for Vociferous (box seven), boasting a best time of 30.05, solid first sectionals around 5.76 seconds, and jumping from box eight.

This Heat will definitely be an exciting race.

    Andy Albion’s Best Bets:

  • Race 3 Number 3 Myth Buster
  • Race 4 Number 5 Mr Metz
  • Race 7 Number 7 Vociferous
