The Racing Queensland Limited board at their October 2012 meeting approved the addition of greyhound races at Albion Park until the end of December, 2012.
The additional races will commence in November and will run until the end of December in an endeavour to afford the current buoyant pool of greyhounds the opportunity to race.
The Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club (BGRC) will host two extra races at their weekly Wednesday and Sunday meetings to accommodate the excess of nominations.
The extra races will add more than $70,000 to the prizemoney pool and will complement the addition of the fortnightly Saturday night non-TAB meetings at Ipswich due to commence in early November.
Racing Queensland chairman Kevin Dixon said the board was quick to vote on the decision.
“The industry currently has a significant surplus of greyhounds that cannot all be placed in races,” he said.
“This decision affords owners and trainers the opportunity to nominate their greyhounds for extra races, and enable them to compete where they might not have been able to in the past.”
