Townsville TAB Coverage Starts September 22nd
TAB and Sky Channel coverage of Townsville greyhound racing will start on Tuesday night September 22.
Sky Channel confirmed the date with Greyhounds Queensland Ltd (GQL) today.
GQL had expected to start TAB and Sky coverage of Townsville Tuesday night race meetings from September 1 but a delay in the laying of cable by Telstra at the Showgrounds forced the date back to September 22.
GQL general manager Darren Beavis said he was disappointed at the delay but happy both the club and GQL could now plan for TAB and Sky coverage of Townsville.
“North Queensland greyhound racing has been waiting for this opening for some years and while the delay was unexpected, it was unfortunate. We are now looking forward to a prosperous future for the northern club and racing there,” said Beavis.
“All greyhound racing in the north of the state will benefit.”
Townsville Club president Kate Miles was excited about the announcement of the start date for TAB and Sky coverage.
“It's something we have been planning for in the past few years and a few weeks delay is nothing really,” she said. “There is great excitement around the north and especially Townsville. It will be a winner for our club and greyhound racing for sure.”
“I would like to thank the GQL Board for giving us this opportunity and it is now up to us to ensure Sky/TAB meetings are a great success.”
Prizemoney levels for Townsville meetings from September 22 will be:
- Maiden: Total $570, 1st $350, 2nd $100, 3rd $50, 4th $30, 5th-8th $10
- Graded: Total $670, 1st $420, 2nd $120, 3rd $60, 4th $30, 5th-8th $10
- Best 8/FFA: Total $870, 1st $560, 2nd $160, 3rd $80, 4th $30, 5th-8th $10
