Up & Comers On Show In Queensland Young Guns Final
Queensland's best young greyhounds will fight it out tonight at Albion Park in the Greyhounds Queensland Young Guns final.
While all have proven ability to run quick times over the 520m at Albion Park, last Thursday's fastest qualifying time was run by the lightning fast Genista Thunder in 29.97.
The Neil Falls-trained performer has shown very promising form in his 25 starts, regularly breaking the 30 seconds barrier at Wentworth Park and now also in Brisbane.
Genista Thunder is expected to start favourite after drawing box two.
However, several other competitors in the challenging race are also sure to be in the finish.
Classy dog Draks has again drawn box eight after winning his heat from the same box in a smart time of 30.39.
Trained by Darren Russell, Draks has been racing against some of Australia's most promising greyhounds such as Knocka Norris and Borat.
Surfin Silence will also be a top competitor in the race, winning his heat in 30.22 from box seven. He will jump from box one tonight.
Other strong chances will also be Midnight Rumble, who's heat win was his first start at Albion Park, and Tony Brett's consistent performer, Betrayed.
The race card this Thursday at Albion Park will also see the return of some of Queensland's best greyhounds, with a number of rivalries expected to be fought out to the line.
Robert Giltinan's smart stayer, Nicely Done, is back from a stint at Wentworth Park, and is expected to settle in well jumping from box six.
Nicely Done boasts a racing resume of 11 starts at the track over 710m to miss out on the final three only once to win six of these.
Another greyhound returning from Wentworth Park is Beverley Debono's Maxie, which is sure to be in the finish.
One Missing will also be one to keep an eye on, returning to 710m after a fourth over 520m on Monday night, and jumping from box one.
In race six, the A-Team fifth grade 520m, Whirly Storm comes back to Albion Park after beating Borat to win the Lismore Cup.
Jumping from box one, the Reg Hazelgrove-trained bitch will be very hard to beat but not impossible, with Royston Renegade and Sheoak Magpie boasting impressive times at Albion Park.
The Brandons Electrical Best Eight 520m (race seven) will see a local derby of proven sprinters.
Amongst them is Reg Hazelgrove's Black Ruler, Ray Burman's Technoman, John field's Intrepid Force and Ron Ball's WItheren's Girl, and it could be anyone's.
The race will also see the return of Lucky Alive, who has not started in Brisbane since September.
In the last race of the night, the Sky Channel fifth grade 520m, Allan Lang's top dog Shooster will be looking to make amends placing second last week in his Top Gun heat.
A similar story is Rumble Supreme, who was unlucky to finish third by only a length in his heat last week also.
