Dailly’s Dominate Coca Cola SA Derby Heats & Final Box Draw

The Interstate raiders were in force last night at Angle Park where they dominated the four heats of the Coca Cola SA Derby led by leading Victorian trainer Andrea Dailly who qualified an amazing 6 runners for next week’s final. She won three out of the four heats conducted last night, with up and coming sprinting star Spud Regis qualifying the fastest after a brilliant front running display in the first heat.

He made it 6 wins from his last 7 starts leading throughout in a blistering 29.64 for the 515m journey defeating kennel mate Schnikey Bale by 3¾ lengths and will start the clear favourite next week after drawing perfectly in box 1.

The second heat was a carbon copy of the first with the Dailly combination greeting the judge when strong chaser Bagget Bale ran home powerfully to score in a sizzling 29.66 in winning by 7¼ lengths defeating kennel mate Allen Dion who showed pace and hung on well for second.

Victorian visitor Peter Rocket for trainer Ken Hellmuth staked his claim for the final with an outstanding performance to score in heat 3. After drawing box 7 Peter Rocket began well and was keen to get to the rails however he found trouble early as Leefull Shot for trainer Rodney Millington pinched a break on the field. Peter Rocket balanced up and chased out after the tearaway leader and prior to turning for home a finals berth was well within his keeping as he raced away for a strong win in a flying 29.86 defeating Leefull Shot by 5½ lengths. He has drawn nicely in box 3 for next week’s final and looks the best chance to break the Andrea Dailly dominance of the Derby final.

The final heat was the upset of the night when outsider Dyna Denny defeated the long odds on favourite Grigorieva Bale by 3 lengths in a solid 30.06. Andrea Dailly again produced the quinella making it her third for the night and giving her more than one hand on next week’s trophy. Whilst Dyna Denny was impressive and strong to the line series favourite Grigorieva Bale lost no admirers in his performance after being checked on three occasions and was still able to run home nicely to secure second spot.

The $36,000 Group Three Final will be run next Thursday night 20th September. It will be race 8 on the program and is listed to jump at 9.11pm (SA time).
