Gun Mcbain shooting for Gawler Gold Cup success

SIX heats of the Group 3 series were conducted over 531-metres at the South Australian circuit on Tuesday, with some impressive performances on show throughout a wonderful afternoon of racing.

Heat one was over in a matter of strides, after Gun Mcbain sped to the lead at the first turn, scoring by two-and-one-quarter lengths in a near-record time of 30.37. The son of Spring Gun and , trained by Vadim Roz, recorded his 23nd career win at start number 45 at what was his first start since September of last year.

's Aston Wingard was gallant in defeat, after getting away to a good start from the inside alley, the beautifully bred son of El Galo and Aston Elite still managed to record a fast time of 30.51.

Punters threw their support behind in-form trainer Jeff Britton in heat two, with Sunday Shoes starting as the $3.20 favourite. Exiting quickly from box three, Sunday Shoes unfortunately suffered heavy interference at the first turn, forcing her to the back of the field.

Martin and 's Zipping Bart took advantage of a glorious rails run, sitting behind the early leaders before dashing to the lead at the top of the home turn. The Jarrad Murray-trained son of and Natalie Rass saluted by six-and-a-half lengths in a fast time of 30.60 at his first start on the South Australian track.

Rum Punch was also on debut at the Gawler circuit and showed good strength to finish second for trainer Ben Rawlings.

Emerley Lover caused another upset in heat three, giving trainer Troy Murray his second qualifier for next week's final. Ken Gill's Farmeroo was best away from box three, with the son of Nitro Burst and Emerley Shine in hot pursuit. Assuming the lead in the back straight, Emerley Lover scored by three-quarters of a length over Farmeroo, which battled on gamely in a time of 30.71.

Notching his 30th career victory yesterday at start 69, this greyhound should receive plenty of support from punters in this Sunday's final.

After stumbling at the start and finding herself in last place at the first turn, Who's Doing What recorded an impressive victory in heat four from box two. The Tracie Price-trained chaser started at $12.50 with totalizers and sat in second position for the majority of the race behind early leader Yiche.

The daughter of High Earner and No won by three-quarters of a length over 's Yiche, clocking a time of 30.94.

Troy Murray returned to the winner's circle in heat five, with Kalden Balerion defeating kennel mate Lannister in a time of 30.71. After a moderate getaway, the son of and Kalden Hania made his way around the outside of the field, taking the lead at the top of the home turn, scoring by two-and-a-half lengths at the finish.

In the final heat, Blurred Lines was all the rage from the inside alley at $2.00 for trainer Ben Rawlings, however the upsets continued as $25 outsider Cosmic Wild got all the breaks during a rough affair, saluting by a length-and-one-quarter over another outsider, Hailstorm Billy.

The victory gave Jarrad Murray his second heat winner for the meeting, with the son of and Abbadale Elle clocking a solid time of 30.59 over the 531m distance.

The final will be conducted this Sunday, with $37,500 in prizemoney on offer.

Troy Murray produced an outstanding training effort to qualify three runners for the final and second reserve, whilst Jarrad Murray also had a memorable afternoon in qualifying two runners.
