Stars Shine In Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg Semi Finals

With four fantastic Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg semi-finals (520m) conducted at Wentworth Park on Saturday (April 16), the strength of the 32 qualifiers was always going to produce a strong field for next week’s $250,000 final.

Saturday’s semi-finals saw Radley Bale assert his dominance following his sizzling 29.45 heat win last week.

Starting short price favourite ($1.60) in semi-final four, the Graeme Bate, Victorian trained greyhound is likely to head the market for the final despite drawing box seven.

With an inside draw preferred by the son of Big Daddy Cool – Minkara Bale connections will still be confident following his eight length semi win in a best of the night performance of 29.68.

Radley Bale begins one box closer to the rails than kennelmate Hayder Bale, which took out semi-final one in 29.95, beating classy runner Kilty Lad.

Kilty Lad will look to record his third Group One title within 12 months, having already won the Silver Chief at the Meadows (525m) and Adelaide Cup at Angle Park (515m).

After finishing fourth in last week’s heats High Earner was able to produce a much more favourable start, leading early in semi two.

Australia’s highest stakes winner pipped at the post by box seven’s He Knows Uno.

The late lunge coming from the Michael Patterson trained Group One Brisbane Cup winner to claim the victory in 30.12 by half a head.

New Zealand trained Sergio the remaining semi-final winner courtesy of the 5.41 first section, which allowed an early break over his competitors and the right to contest next week’s final.

“Last week, on the Saturday morning he seemed a bit flat, but this week he has really picked up and responded to some changes we made,” trainer Gary Harding said following the event.

“We were confident going into the semi-final that he would improve and we are just thrilled to qualify for the final.”

Filled with depth, the Group One Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg Final will produce another champion, and for the first time this year’s victor will lay claim to being the world’s richest greyhound event winner.
