Brooke Ennis Fined $1,000 By GRNSW For Another Meloxicam Positive

Greyhound () have finalised deliberations on penalty following analysts' reports of the finding of Meloxicam in the urine sample taken from Warrior King after that greyhound finished second in the second Semi Final at on 12 April 2014.

Consistent with the protocols established for dealing with such matters under the GRNSW Prohibited Substance Penalty System, trainer was advised of the reports received from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory and Racing Science Centre QLD via written notification.

Following alternate correspondence, Ms Ennis pleaded guilty to a charge under GAR 83 (2) (a) of having presented Warrior King for the event other than free of any prohibited substance in that the urine sample taken from the greyhound after the race was found to contain Meloxicam.

After GRNSW considered submissions from Ms Ennis on penalty she was fined $1,000.

In considering penalty, stewards took into account such factors as Ms Ennis' record of having no offence in more than four years of registration as a trainer, a lack of evidence of any support for the greyhound on the day, the nature of the substance involved and its comparative moderate level detected, her record of having a number of previously cleared samples, her guilty plea and her position with the Greyhound Racing Club.

Notwithstanding those factors, the significance of the event in question was considered an aggravating factor in the penalty issued.

Under GAR 83 (5), Warrior King was disqualified from the event in question as well as the Golden Easter Egg Final at Wentworth Park on 19 April 2014, with the placings for each race amended accordingly.

Ms Ennis was advised of her right of appeal.
